Study of an ultra-stylish luxury-class coupé: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6. The 2+2 seater is a homage to the glorious age of the aero coupés and consciously carries this tradition forward into the future. The coupé reinterprets classic, emotional design principles in an extreme way, following the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity.

Mercedes Maybach Vision 6

What a beauty! Shown last week-end at the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach. The car is 6 meters (almost 20') long and.....NO ENGINE. She's electric! The strakes on the front grill are "Inspired by a pinstripe suit".

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Is Actually a Drone

don't like calling everything a drone, but everybody does it because it sounds better than "remote-controlled quadcopter." However, the term also loosely applies to the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6.

In case you didn't know, that's the name of the most attractive concept car at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Not only does the design draw attention, but the gargantuan body positively dwarves everything else.

When the 6 came out, we said it looked a lot like the Vision AMG concept that inspired the design of the AMG GT. We didn't know that the two concepts also shared being remote controlled.

We remember the AMG Vision Gran Turismo arriving at Jay Leno's Garage all those years ago... and he couldn't drive it because it was remote-controlled. Back then, drones weren't really a thing, but they are now. So we can joke about the first one in Maybach history.

Stuff like what you see filmed here is going to be common within the next two years. The E-Class and 7 Series both have remote control features to allow you to park more easily.

With a short-range remote, the operator is able to accurately steer, brake and accelerate. This kind of device is sometimes used in movie props as well. What we wonder is whether the technician had to practice steering the Maybach before the even. Pretty soon, we'll be doing unboxing reviews of cars and replacing broken propellers. Is your Mercedes compatible with Lollipop OS?

The fact that this car is purely electric might have made implementing the technology a little easier. But if such a Maybach ever makes it into production, it will almost certainly have remote driving even if powered by the usual V8 or V12 engine.

The future of the luxury car industry surely involves EVs, autonomy and a combination of the two. But will we be drifting without ever being in the car? Or ar we just dealing with a gimmick that blinds us to the fact that we're losing interest.

Super Slim Maybach

Anybody else notice that they never corrected the opening line of this announcement about the Vision Maybach concept? Or maybe the idea is to have a car that looks GREAT from the front and is INCREDIBLY easy to fit into small parking spaces.

"Measuring a massive 18.5-inches long and nearly seven-feet wide, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept is a 2+2 coupe that possibly previews a future model for the ultra-luxury brand."
