Hi,

I've been looking to "upgrade" my exhaust silencer for a while now and since my MOT a few months ago advised it may need replacing soon I decided the time is now.

So I'll be honest, I don't know much about exhaust systems at all which is why I'm looking for some expert advice (that's you guys :) ), I'm simply looking for something to give my SLK a bit more of a "roar" when I put my foot down. Nothing that'll make buildings shake, but something that'll give me that childish satisfaction from hearing it.

I found this... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Novus-Sport-Exhaust-Silencer-0-3-32x3-17-32in-Sr-with-ABE-for-Mercedes-SLK-R170-/253721868431?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c10#shpCntId#shId
It says it'll fit which is a good start and also claims to give a "sporty and sonorous sound" which in theory sounds good to me!

My question is this - will this actually sound any better than my standard exhaust? And how much effort will it be to remove the current silencer and replace it with this one? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

Can I suggest that you find yourself a local exhaust specialist first?

It's odds on that if the back box outer skin is on it's way out, the bolts and union that connect that piece of pipe to the cat are probably also shot.
I had to cut out the union between the two pieces with an angle grinder and make a sleeve to join them back together - things can get complicated.

Sorry for the (very) late reply guys.

Thanks for your advice, I took it down to a local garage and they advised it probably isn't worth touching as there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the exhaust except the expected bit of rust.

So I saved my money and replaced the foggy, yellowy headlights with some new shiny new ones instead :)

I'll update with some pictures when I get chance!
