Hello guys. Just recently purchased a SLK55 and I love it. What a blast to drive!
The only thing I don't like about the car is the steering wheel, and that's the part we touch the most. I really like the updated one on the r171 SLK55 and was wondering if I could do a direct swap without any issues? Has anybody else done this before?

Changing the steering wheel is quite an easy swap, but you'll need a new airbag assy - should only set you back somewhere in the order of $1-3000

Thank you for your fast reply. I have done a swap before on my C300 with a C63 steering wheel and only took me about 15 min. But my concern is if it's just a plug and play? Or will it need some modification for all the buttons and the lighting on the buttons to work?

It is plug & play, and very easy to do. Once you have the new wheel and airbag, disconnect the battery, and leave for at least half an hour - longer is better. The reason is twofold - firstly, the airbag might go off in your face if you don't and that could really spoil your day,the second reason is that if you remove your wheel whilst the CANbus is still awake, you can end up with SRS errors, which can only be cleared by a Star Diagnostic system.

So you got the black one with 78000 miles from Exotic motors. Funny, it's still listed as "sale pending". Do tell us what sort of condition it's in. It was listed at $22.9k. What did you end up paying?

Also your own pics too, or as they say "it didn't happen" ;)

cheers

How old are we?! Find somebody else to bother with your childish accusations! Maybe you should check their site again? (Wonder what others make out of characters such as yous that go out of your way to try and catch somebody lying)

Whoa, whoa, slow down here. There is no one accusing you of anything.

I know what it means. I been on MBWorld since 2007 with over 1600 comments and never got on bad water with any other memeber. But usually on my neck of the woods, when somebody gets something, first thing we do is congratulate them, or don't say anything at all and for this guys to follow with "Funny, on the site it says "Sale pending" and than display the figures on the car (as if I was trying to hide them) and go out of his way and check up on the dealers site, tells me that his intuitions are something else! Anyway, I tend not to pay attention to members with no manners, but it's nice of you to try and ease the waters!

Cheers.

Just doing my job and thank you for understanding and for getting the thread back on track.

Since you have been around, I assume you already have a datacard per my post #7 above?

No sorry I forgot to reply to that post. What exactly is a 'datacard'?

Lying? As Jbanks said "it didn't happen" is a common jest across many car forums. I thought the smilie was a clue too.

My comment about it still be listed was more about how slow these sites are to take a sale down when you commented about it being a blast to drive, which inferred that you've had it for at least a few days.

Also commenting that it was listed as "sale pending" was also a pretty good clue that someone, i.e. you, had bought it. Cars.com at least does the 'sale pending" thing whereas autotrader.com often has cars still listed that are long sold as I've found when enquiring on a few - maybe the dealer does this deliberately.

Well than I hope thats what your true intuitions were and I apologize on my behalf. I got the car sat around 5pm (they close at 6) and the people that handle the site were gone by that time. The people at the dealer are good friends of mine and this is the 3rd car I have bought from them (2006 S430, 2008 C300 4Matic Sport) and they gave me a great deal. Mechanically the car is in great condition. The interior however does show its age (steering wheel and shift know look a bit weathered under the Florida sun, but that's an easy fix as I am going to upgrade them.)
