Hi,

A big hello to everyone. I live in West Glamorgan area of the UK (Wales) and recently purchased a 2011 MERCEDES SLK SLK200 1.8 BLUEEFFICIENCY TIP AUTO in Diamond White Metallic, which if I am correct in saying is known as the R172 (3rd Generation Mercedes).

A little about myself - I was born in Cardiff (South Wales), moved to Port Talbot, West Glamorgan and work part time for a Mental Health Organisation as a Counsellor also working from Home running my Husband's (who is self employed) Business.

This is our first Mercedes SLK. The shape and colour is mainly down to my Husband. I like all Mercedes Slks but the 2nd Generation SLK has the edge for me.

Wondering if any member is around or within our locality, i.e. Swansea, Neath, Margam, Rhonda, Bridgend, Cardiff, Newport etc. The workings of the car (despite the manual) would be best run through by an experienced SLK owner. If any member that is within our locality is happy to oblige, this would be appreciated.

We look forward and are happy to being part of the Club and getting to know others whether in the UK or overseas.

Best wishes:smile:

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time. If you and your husband are interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there! :tu:

There's a summary post that I maintain for all UK meets here, and links to examples and pictures from this year's past meets are available here.

Finally, we've also just started plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map
By the way, I see at least one member on the map quite near you... I'm sure there are others, but not many have replied and asked to be added to the map yet.

Thank you

Welcome from the Wirral.

Apart from a UK section (see dbgrn post above) we also have a ladies section:
Sophisticated Ladies Korner - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum

Not many active members in south Wales.
Curious, because my experience is that the area is one of the friendliest in the UK.

Hopefully someone will oblige locally.

I suspect the few meets we have left in 2016 may be too far for you in winter.

As for the second generation?

We have two in our house, but I'm not biased at all :tu:

All the SLKs are fun and all capable of giving you an all day smile.

Have you guys tried a night time drive in the moonlight yet?
The heating is so good it is a roof down experience.

Hi PJB,

Thank you for your contact and welcome. The Hebrides I've not visited but would like to. I know there are some real gems from the isles, such as Islay and Jura, mixed with history, wildlife facts and local knowledge from Argyll and the Scottish mainland coast. I bet its pretty cold there at this time of the year but its a beautiful part of the UK and as you probably know, the UK tends to be mostly wet, windy, cool and cold...warm hot and summer days are lovely but appear to be getting less.

Do you miss Wales?

Best wishes

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your informative reply and also your welcome. Being new to the club and forums I hope you wont mind if I ask for any assistance to find other South Wales members even though there apparently are not many.

I have had a good number of replies so its assuring to feel a part of being at home so to speak and looking forward to some meets (more than probably next year).

Best wishes

Hi Russ,

Good to hear from you and thank you for your welcome, its appreciated.

Shame about the missed SLK folk being in Wales, but never mind, am sure we will get to meet up with some in the near future. Love the mystic blue colour, (am a blue or grey coloured car lady) but my Husband likes White. I have had various colours in the past and over the years of various model cars (some prestige, others not) and though I don't use the colour as the main thing when purchasing a car, its in the top 10 of wants.

I did try out and looked to purchase a 2009 SLK 1.8, Caspian blue and ivory leather but it had various faults that the dealer didn't inform about and hence the reason I opted out of purchasing.

I like all the SLK versions but the 2nd generation seems to hit my eye and mind somewhat a little more.

Lovely to forum speak with you.

Best wishes

Please feel free to ask for any assistance that you need. Jeff's already listed a number of useful tips for using the forum, and let's hope that some other members from South Wales respond here for you too... :)

Also, note that it's sometimes better to use the "Quote" button (instead of the "Quick Reply" button) when responding to people, as it makes it clearer to see who you've responded too (and, depending on their notification settings, they may even get notified that you've responded to them too).

Once again, welcome, and please feel free to ask if you have any questions about anything here (note that you can send PMs to moderators, such as myself and Jeff), even before you've reached 15 posts. :tu:
