Weird and I thought my 3rd Gen Mini Clubman got too big.:|

The S-Class is the full-size luxury sedan that defines the segment, and there are plenty more to choose from competing manufacturers. But in the United States, owners started to trade their luxury cars for “tricked-out pickups” that can cost from “$70,000 to $100,000” according to CNBC.

The cited publication writes that “shoppers appear especially enamored with the new High Country model that can be loaded up with features like heated seats, a heads-up display on the windshield, and active noise cancellation.” The Silverado 1500 in this trim level and Crew Cab configuration with 4x4 and the 6.2-liter V8 has a suggested retail price of $59,095.

Over at Ford, the F-150 Limited with 4x4 is an eye-watering $72,055, making it one of the most expensive light-duty pickups on sale for the 2019 model year. As for Ram Trucks, the 1500 starts at $31,795 for the Tradesman while the Limited in Crew Cab specification with 4x4 is $56,995. When all is said and done, the Big Three in Detroit have a full-size pickup truck for every type of customer out there, including the type that comes from Mercedes-Benz.

CNBC also highlights “demand has been surging among regular buyers who are opting out of sedans and coupes and replacing their family vehicles with pickups and SUVs.” The most surprising thing is, many customers don’t go for entry-level configurations.

The Ram 1500 Limited mentioned beforehand can be had with something called the Limited Level 1 equipment group, Harman/Kardon premium sound system, heavy-duty shock absorbers, and lots more, bringing the price to a staggering $90,325. Insane money for a light-duty pickup, alright! For the sake of comparison, the BMW 7 Series starts at $83,650 and the Audi A8 is yours from $83,800.

According to the dealer principal at the McCombs Auto Group in Austin, “at least one buyer adds enough aftermarket options to drive off with a pickup priced at more than $100,000,” referring to the F-Series Super Duty Limited. "There are just some people who want to have the best truck on the block," she said.

AND that's why Ford (among others or soon to be) is eliminating all cars (except Focus and 'stangs) from their assembly lines.
