Hi all, great forum...

I have a question. I have a 91 300TE-24 that is a euro car, not north american. It has the AMG body kit, AMG steering wheel, is lowered, has an AMG decal on the air cleaner, is badged AMG on the rear, but other than that, no other markings of special AMG information on the car. According to the linesheet on an online VIN decoder when I bought the car, it said it was a 300TE-24. I have recently been having head gasket troubles with the 104.980 engine, so I printed off the linesheet again from the same VIN decoder. This time (one year later), it said my car is a 300 TE-24,AMG 300 TE 3.4. The online vin decoder that I used can be found at http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

I told my mechanic this and his mouth dropped a bit, as did mine. I don't know if it is a true AMG, but before he does the head gasket on the engine, he wants to be sure of what he is opening up. Is it a 3.4 or the 3.0 DOHC 104.980? My VIN is WDB1240911F162464. It says my chassis # is a 124091 which I read somewhere on this forum from Tslick that this is an AMG car.

Please help out if you can. I will be pleased if this is a true AMG car, but my mechanic will pull his hair out as the parts will likely have to come from Germany.

Thanks to all who help out...

Welcome, surprised you mentioned my handle. Must of been that table.

I'd recommend going to the AMG PL and subscribe. They will ask you for the VIN for verification. There are a few from Canada that are members of the AMG PL. If they verify your ride as an AMG, be sure to post photos in the AMG classics section of the board.

Edit: add Euro table

We're more SLK specific here, but I bet someone will have the answer. A few folks are AMG experts, but it may take a couple days for them to pass by, so be patient. Usually cars aren't considered "true" AMGs by purists unless they have the engine. But cars are frequently ordered from MB with the AMG package which could include everything but. And can even come badged "AMG" from the dealer...

There is an AMG section on BenzWorld that might have several 300E AMG owners there. Have you tried that forum as well?
