Hello again friends,
My old 55 has been behaving itself for the most part, but on a 'normal' cold start a couple days ago, upon placing into drive, it performed a very rough, hard shift together with an exaggerated lurch. I carried on carefully off my property at low revs during warm-up, but it soon became clear that the transmission wasn't shifting and I noticed the CEL was illuminated. I pulled over and switched off and removed the key. After a minute or so I restarted, but all the the symptoms were still present. Selecting reverse is rougher than normal, but not nearly as dramatic as going into drive. On searching Google, the most likely cause for 'limp mode' relating to the transmission is predictably cited as low fluid level, so I added about 300ml via the dip-stick tube, but again, no improvement.
Anyone have a similar experience, or any pointers other than get a professional check?(Already booked for Wednesday). I have situations where I really need the use of a car before then.
Old friends with good memories might recall I had the 'usual' conductor plate issue repaired about 5 years/30k miles ago, and these new symptoms are completely different.
