I have read most of the posts on how to repair/replace leaking cylinders. My 1999 230SLK was diagnosed with 3 of the 5 cylinders leaking. One shop says the only way to go is to replace all 5 with new MB parts, and replace the headliner. Independent shop that specializes is German cars quoted me a price of $3200. He said he has had bad experience with rebuilding the units, and that he ends up replacing the rebuilt unit.

On the other hand, the used car dealer where I bought the car says he has a convertible top and upholstery contractor that has good experience rebuilding the cylinders. Price is less than half of the rebuild cost.

Which way should I go. I want to keep the car at least 2 more years and do not want to have a rework. Open for suggestions.
