Here’s an answer to a question we hope nobody asked - “how does a McLaren look after crashing at triple-digit speeds?” The photo above shows an MP4-12C that had a serious crash on the German Autobahn.
The supercar was being driven by a 71-year-old man, who was reportedly going 150 mph (240 km/h) when he lost control. Fortunately, all the engineering invested in both the guardrail and the car paid out, with the man escaping the accident with just a cut on one of his arms.
The McLaren went into the guardrail and to get an idea of just how difficult it is to get rid of the speed when you’re going that fast and you crash, we’ll mention the protection element on the side of the highway was damaged in 26 spots.
The aftermath of the crash
The debris resulted from the accident spread over a length of a quarter mile (400 meters). The A95 highway where the crash took place was closed for two and a half hours in order for the car to be removed and the road to be cleared, with the latter operation being a painstaking one.
As you can see in the image, the carbon fiber tub of the MP4-12C did its job well, which explains why the driver was able to walk away from the crash. As for the supercar, while we don’t have the list of parts that can be salvaged, it’s obvious this is short enough to ruin a petrolhead’s mood.
