I've been a bit of a car nut since I can remember. I've had a lot of Chevrolet s10s, lowered, lifted, v8 swap, it's probably safe to say I've done everything that doesn't require major fabrication.

In 2012 I bought my first Benz, a 1998 c230. I never knew the importance of service history until I got my hands on this rust free, 2nd owner German luxury car. I drove it with nothing more than basic wear and tear, a set of spark plugs and a headlight switch.

2015, hyundai driver decides to blow a stop sign and take my beloved Benz from me. I shortly after buy a 1986 300SDL, which I still have and have put countless numbers of miles on.

2016 I bought a 1999 slk230 Kompressor Sport manual. Found it through the tow company I work for with a really clean body, and a blown head gasket. I put some blue devil head gasket sealer in and drove it for about 150 miles to see if I'd even like this chassis. I was pleasantly surprised how a car as small as my Honda CRX was just as luxurious as that old c class I had.

My latest plans are to alleviate the turbo diesel engine from the well worn w126 chassis and get it back to cruising in style in the r170 platform. Short term goals are to get it mounted up and driving but eventually I would like to break the 300 hp mark.

I very recently picked up a rolling chassis parts car, a 1998 slk230 that I believe will be indisposable as a jig to build brackets, mounts, etc for the project. I'm also considering building a matching trailer out of the trunk of this parts car to pull behind the completed diesel roadster for a little extra space.

Feel free to drop commentary, questions, etc. I will do my best to update threads weekly.

Thanks for all the welcomes and replies, I can tell already that there are some good people with good information out there. I've been on a few other M-B specific sites looking for helpful information on my swap, but was helping out with getting another r170 back on the road and came across the vari roof threads.
