Hi All,

So I read through a few threads, but didn't quite find the answer I was looking for, so here goes.

I believe I have pre wiring, at leat I have a small connection in my centre console covered by a plug shaped cover, and my datacard says I have pre wiring so I guess I have.

I have a nokia 6700, and the correct cradle for it is £141, ouch.. from here, unfortunatly I can't find one on ebay for a 6700 .

So the question is, If all I want is the ability to use my audio 20 to make and recieve calls, could I buy a cradle for the 6300 for a much more reasonable £11, then plug that in and would that enable me to connect my 6700 via BT and through to my Audio 20?. I don't really care about the charging of the phone whilst driving, just the ability to make calls.

I also understand (tell me if I'm right), that if you do use the correct cradle and the phone is in it's cradle, that you get a better phone reception, as it uses the car body to aid in call reception?

Cheers for any answers you can give me.

So you get better reception if you use the cradle as it uses an external antenna and amp from the completer kit in the boot.

Your best bet - honestly - is to pick up a bluetooth puck, put that in your console, and connect your phone that way. I don't think you would be able to link two "handset" devices to each other in any meaningful way to use it as a phone...

Bluetooth - on the NTG2.0 cars - is unfortunately only via a puck - but it does work pretty well. Let me know if you'd like to try one out, I've got a spare at the house.

Hi UK-C200,

When you say BT puck, do you mean one of these items
this or this

And if you think these would work better than me trying to BT my 6700 through a 6300 normal cradle I could give it a go.

Alternativley I could go back to my old 6300 and use a £10 6300 cradle, and have everything, but then when my wife drives the car it wouldn't work with her blackberry, and perhaps this puck would?

Cheer for the help.

Yep -those are the pucks I was talking about. Like I said, I've got one of the black ones in London I'm not using at the moment, you are more than welcome to try it out.

They are a bit picky with the phones they work with - I originally had a Nokia N97 - worked great as a phone, but the address book didn't transfer at all - just as an example. In general Nokia phones are compatible, and I know of people using Crackberrys, so you should be fine.

I installed a Viseeo MB-2 into my 2006 SLK280 just the other day that I bought off a reseller on EBay. I have a Samsung A561 mobile phone and it worked perfectly with the BT unit right from the start. Updating the hard- & software on the unit was a bit of a pain but if you follow the instructions to the tee then you won't have a problem.

Thanks guys,

Thanks for the offer UK-C200, I think I'll buy one of Ebay then, they seem to be selling well anyway, so if for some reason it doesn't work, then I'll have no problem re-selling it.

And the MB black one says it uses the HFP, which I'm sure my phone does and so does my missuses blackberry..

I'll give it a go, cheers all

I bought a Bluetooth puck for my 2004 350, the Mercedes Bluetooth HFP Phone Cradle B67875877 from Ebay. It works absolutely perfect with my HTC Touch HD, and my Mrs uses it with her Crapberry....Overall quality is really good, downloads the phone book and fully functional from the steering wheel etc...I have the Comand system. Can't fault this unit at all!!! RECOMMENDED!:biglaugh:

Cheers for the good news Miles,

I've got my eye on a few in Ebay right now, they seem to be going for about £90 - £120 atm, so hopefully I can get a cheap one :)

I paid just over £100 for mine and the quality of the system in the car is exceptional....sometimes its hard to tell it's on handsfree or not when I call my Mrs....just watch though...if your house is in bluetooth range...when you get out the car...its takes a few minutes for the car/puck to release the phone. The other day I went into the car and my Mrs was on the phone...the car picked up her phone as soon as I opened the central locking...I ended up having to explain to the caller that the car had automatically taken over her phone...in this case she had to switch of BT on her phone to take the call when. Other than that 10/10 for the system...and no more points for me on the phone!

I know what you mean having a nice 3 points and £60 fine slapped on me earlier this year... lol

Anyway I have secured a MB BT Puck
Model number: B6 787 5877 08W36

for £90 with £5.99 postage..

Hope it arrives soon :)

Thanks for all the feedback

Can I ask for a bit of clarification?

As I understand it, the puck will only work on a pre-wired SLK (the connection in the console). Is this correct?

And, a non-pre-wired vehicle is probably best off pursuing bluetooth via an I-Tronic unit?

My SLK has both the 6 disk changer in the glove box and the ipod connection. Hard to justify the $800+ just to add bluetooth via I-Tronic for my wife. (If I didn't have the ipod connection, the Bluetooth + Ipod I-tronic unit would be on the table for consideration). The puck seems much more reasonable, of course.

Just want to make sure I'm comparing the right things when looking into this.

Pretty much what I figured. I don't have the connection, so...the wife is gonna have to do without the BT until the price comes down on an I-tronic-esque solution.

I'm sure you could get a 3rd party BT connection like Parrot??? Sure they have ISO connectors that plug in so it still goes through the cars system, though obviously won't have steering wheel functionality....

Cheap alternative at present and keeps her safe when driving???

Well my BT puck arrived today, a neat little thing for sure.

So I'll have a go at fitting it dinnertime, it seems very simple..

I'll soon be hands free :)

You're right, of course...takes away a bit of the modding fun, but does get the job done. Worth a look, even if it just winds up being for the interim.

Ok so new BT Puck installed, and phone accepted, and first call made :)

Now I'm thinking, when I also allow my wife's blackberry to pair with the puck (you can have 4 phones), and lets say we both get in the car, and both have our BT turned on, which phone is the puck going to pick up?, and if it picks up the wrong one, can you swap it though the audio 20, or is it a case of us having to have one of them with the BT turned off, so the puck can only physically attach itself to the one with BT left on?.

Cheers for info from anybody else who has run into this problem.

FUNNY.....when the pair of us go into the car it always picks up her Crapberry first!!! Pisses me right off but hey ho!! lol. If it is a long journey I'll get her to switch hers off so mine's connects...can't afford anymore points!! Don't know if there's a way to swap them over when hers connects over mine??? See if anyone has an answer??? But overall I'm well happy for £100 for full BT....just wished it could do texts as well....:)

Swagman...does your head unit access your phone book as well?? I have the Comand system and it access' mine ok??

Yes Miles, This mornings fun was setting up the Blackberry, and both phones connect great and make crystal clear calls, also both phonebooks trasfer correctly, although if you press the buttons to fast looking for a name it either says 'Prossessing' or 'Memory empty', but they eventualy appear fine. and I have an Audio 20.

To get around the double connection issue, I think I'll just leave my BT on, and she can turn hers on if she's ever in the car alone, that way we shouldn't have an issue.

Of course if anybody knows a way of switching between phones, I'd be happy to hear the solution :)
