At the moment the only way I can lock/unlock my 1999 Sport is via the trunk lock. The buttons on the key fob don't work and turning the key in the driver's door lock does nothing. The car battery is fine. I have some replacement batteries for the fob on order, but shouldn't the driver's door lock operate using the key? Thanks.

do a search for PSE vacuum pump and see what you come up with.
also does the "lock" switch underneath the radio work?

Thanks for your reply. The center console switch works fine as does the trunk lock which locks/unlocks all doors. I suspect it is dead batteries in the remote or the remote was dropped one too many times and something inside is broken.

Can someone explain to me how this key works? Why doesn't the flip-out key manually open the driver's door? Is this a security feature dependent on some response from the key's internal circuitry? If so, why does the "dead" key work in the ignition? Thanks.

you could see if your remote is still "working" by using your camera phone and pointing the remote at the phone and seeing if the infrared light works. that might allow you to tell if the batteries are working or not.

Turns out all it needed was batteries. Two new Maxell CR2025 in the fob and all is good again. I am still puzzled by one thing: why won't the flip-out key in the fob open the driver's door manually? I insert the key in the door handle and turn it either way and nothing happens. Seems the only "manual" way to lock/unlock the car is by using that key in the trunk lock.

It is quite a common problem - flood the barrel with WD-40 (or your penetrant oil of choice) and keep working the key - eventually it will operate as intended.

I'm having lock problems as well. The key fob will lock/unlock the driver door. The passenger door does nothing. When I get in the car I can hear something on the passenger side, like it's trying to the engage the lock but nothing. The button under the radio, makes the sound as well, but nothing happens on the passenger door.
