I have a 2001 SLK 320. So, there are two steering dampers (driver side and passenger side) correct? Does anyone have pics of location?Tackled this little project this morning. Quite easy, took all of about 20 minutes. Tools required.
1 16mm wrench open and box end
1 16mm socket with ratchet
I jacked up the passenger side of the car with my floor jack to get a little more work room.
The passenger side is just a bolt threaded into another piece of the suspension. No nut on this side. I had to use the wrench here because there is a support bracket in the way to get the socket on.
The driver side was a bolt and nut. You will need the wrench here to hold the nut on top while you use the socket to remove the bolt.
I did not have torque specs but these are big bolts. Very unlikely you will break these unless you use an impact.
Put the new stabilizer on in reverse order and that was it. Will test drive after while and see if there is any difference. The old one seemed worn out compared to the new one.
Keep in mind this was on an 01 SLK 320, your vehicle may be different.
need advise on if i should go with oem or off brand. i looked into autozone's damper:
and their's has a lifetime warranty on it. meaning when ever i to change it out, i just take it back and they give me another one.
has anyone put one of these on their slk?
