I'm new to the forum, I just bought a slk 230, When I start it the alarm makes a single beep. Is there a way to turn this feature off?
Thanks
Abe

ps I just bought this 1998 SLK230 with only 8000 original miles, obviously I'm pretty happy with it.

Welcome aboard.
Does the "beep" come from the engine compartment? If it does thats the alarm & I cant help, You may have to go to a MB dealer to fix it. or does it come from inside the cabin?
There are several things that comes to mind if it comes from the interior.
Have you put the top down & back up, if the roof has not fully compleeted its cycle it will beep to let you know its not fully locked. I allways hold the switch until the windows come up.
The car will also beep at you if start the car and your seatbelt is not fastened. or if the key is in the ignition & a door is open.

Please, check out the various links in my signature.

If the beep sound is due to the seat belt,
you can try one of this seat belt buckle,
the car won't make any beep sound if you start the car before buckle your seat belt,
hope this help.

Could also be a warning message. Does any warning show up on your cluster like "Bulb out," "Low coolant level," etc.?

I appreciate that it has been a long time since you posted the problem but, the single beep on start up is almost certainly indicating a service due. If the mileage in the bottom centre display shows a negative value, this means you have gone beyond the service interval. Either have your car serviced or service it yourself and reset the service indicator.

To do this;
Sit in car with door closed
Switch on ignition to second position and push button to the left of speedo twice. Switch off ignition.
Now hold the same button and switch on ignition again. Hold the button for around 8 seconds until the service interval changes. Release button and turn off ignition.

Be prepared to try this a few times as it rarely works the first time.

George,

You might want to start a new thread with just your problem.
do it in the new member introduce yourself section.

I have a similar condition, when I turn the key to position 1. the alarm horn goes off, one beep. I have a brand new PSE and everything works great. I've looked in the Owner's Manual and it doesn't mention anything about that. I tried the seat belt idea, no help. I also tried the maintenance interval reset and the procedure worked, but the beep hasn't gone away.

How do I turn this annoying feature off?
