Friend went to look at an slk 200k 36,000 registered 30 march 2000 has two tone black/cream leather, manual gear box Merc FSH just MOT'd at Merc dealer. One alloy slight ding and two wee rust spots on bonnet (possible stone chips). On sale £9K asking price.
Sound good?? any pointers or things to look out for about car please, I have gave website address so he will be looking in later today!

Cheers in advance

That looks like a good price for a post-facelift SLK with such low mileage (it's the cheapest by far on Autotrader :D ). I would make sure he is happy with the 200 engine and manual box though as some people prefer at least the 230 with an autobox and it could also effect resale (it seems a difficult combination to sell on according to a car saleman friend of mine...although he sold a very nice 200 manual in under a week after putting some smart alloys on it).

I am not an SLK expert as I've not even had mine a year yet but 2 problems I've had with mine are surface rust and the catalytic convertors.

Make sure those rust spots on the bonnet are small enough to just be cleaned and painted with touch-up paint before they get too deep, and also check for rust on the inner edges of the wheel arches and below the boot handle, and the rear corners of the roof panel. I've read on this forum that these areas should be covered by the warranty but it may not be valid if the car doesn't have a full mercedes service record.

The catalytic convertors are known to fail and can cost £1,500 from mercedes for a pair (but I paid £750 for mine from an independant specialist when I bought my car because the baffles rattled loudly) but as the one your friend is looking at has just had an MOT then you would assume they are ok.

Other than that my eperience of the SLK is that its great fun to drive and fairly practical too!

Good luck :tu:

Make sure your buddy gets over here and joins SLKWorld. I know the miles are low, but that converts to about $17,000. I paid that for mine a year and a half ago with 70K miles. I don't know, he didn't steal it, but it's probably a fair price. I've never driven the 200 (not available in the US) so I can't comment, but I know the 230K with auto is a blast!! :tu:

I'd say it's a good price for the UK. According to the Parker's price guide a good condition SLK200 manual box that age with 50,000 miles would sell privately for £10,000 so I reckon he got a very good deal there :woot:

I have a 200k in Bangkok with automatic. It's more than enough power for where I drive it.

Had a wee look at it today Lovely silver with two-tone cream and black leather and machined aluminium centre console. Second car for weekend so 200 ok for him had a wee shot of both in quick succession for comparison ...there is some difference!
17" AMG alloys 245 wide tyres at the back and 225 at the front.
Has a wee bit of rust under the bonnet at the front lip and at the curve under both rear wings and a wee bit under the boot lid too.....Should this be covered by 30 yr corrosion warranty?? (has full Merc history)
If not a few hundred to get touched up

Apart from that its a cracker:tu: :tu:
Will get him to post some photos
We looked a bit strange in the supermarket carpark with the 2 (R171 and R170)parked up together!
