a friend of mine recently bought a pontiac solstice gxp (turbo). she took me for a spin in it yesterday and i was truly underwhelmed. acceleration was ok, so was braking... nothing to write home about. i found the handling very dissappointing. she took me through a local twisty and the car just felt loose and sloppy. the tires were formula 1, 245/40 18's on all four, so i don't think the tires were the problem. on the up side, it did have a manual tranny...

:confused:I'm starting to see many of the Solstice and Skys on the road. They look good and for the price, I'm sure they're a lot of fun. I say, let them have their fun.

I like the look of them, especially for the money, just don't think of owning one if you are 6' plus as my husband is. He fits fine in my SLK though.....

I ordered Mama a Sky back in the fall, when told it would be spring to early summer, I started lookin at SLK's, dang glad I did. Back when the PT Cruzers first came out I wanted one, waz told"next year they are gettin a V6 wid supercharger, I waited and nothing. Last year picked up a loaded PT for a song, had my guys yank the POS(Neon) drive train and fab a chassis for support and we stuck a ZZ4 crate motor wid 6 speed and 9" posi in it. If Chrysler had given that little unit a third the drivetrain, they would not be able to build them fast enough. Gonna be the same story wid tha Sky and Solstice, wait two years, pick one up for a song and modify to your hearts content. US auto makers are wimps when it comes to performance or they over price the good ones so few can afford. Member when you could order a Chevelle with over 200 choices for performance and other options, didn't need after market crap, got it from factory...:biglaugh::biglaugh:

Scott, did you take her for a spin in the 55 through the same paces...or did you not want to rain on her parade?

And did you look in the trunk? I thought our trunks were small...

And I believe it was the Solstice that had the "snaps" for the canvas top into the deck of the trunk (or somewhere back there). The one I looked at which was still for display had already started getting marks on the paint where the canvas ran on top of the paint to get to the snap. Not a good design for the long run looks like.

None the less, I think it is a sharp looking car (along with the Sky) and a good bargain for the money.

:tu:Ah, the good old days. For those that weren't around or too young to remember the "muscle car" era. From around 1964 through the early 70s. The oil embargo and maybe the times killed it in the early 70s. It was a great time to be around and witness all the great high performance cars and some look a likes. Doug's right, all the good stuff came from the factory. Other than a set of headers, Cragar wheels, a tachometer, and some chrome add ons, there wasn't a lot available aftermarket. The J.C. Whitney car parts catalog was the "internet" of the time. It was a great time in automative history.

Plus, Cars bodies were stronger than most Suv's especially those chrome steel bumpers. Not only that but a set of headers and other naturally aspirated modifications are available and priced reasonable and dont cost 4,995 $ for headers in case of our 5.4L V8's

I'll say!! I used to live in the J.C. Whitney catalog when I had my '80 Triumph Spitfire!! The only car I ever had you could sit on the front tire and do just about anything under the hood...err...bonnet...sorry mates! :biglaugh:

Almost bought a Sky instead of the SLK.
Glad I didn't. Sky just doesn't command the attention and respect of the SLK!:rb

My buddy has one. I have not driven it cause then I would have to let him drive mine...and that ain't gonna happen!!! LOL:biglaugh:

But when we are parked together, the SLK gets the attention!:butt:
