Went for 6 days to the black sea from Bulgaria's capital - Sofia.

Started the day at 8.30 AM on Saturday to go to the bodyshop to install my windrestrictor that arrived a few days previous. Work started at 9.30 and ended around 1. Apparently they had to run the wires all the way to the back left of the trunk to keep it looking clean. On/Off button was installed inside the middle back armrest to keep it hidden, very well done.

Hit the road around 1.30 PM on the ring road surrounding Sofia and cruising at 100 KPH, get on the main highway and its 140 KPH. 30 mins in and on quarter tank was getting 7(!) liter / 100KM.

Stopped for lunch and filled up the tank, and it slowly started creeping up to around 8.5L/100KM. Some sensor was hanging from the driver side of the bumper so I just stuffed it back under the bumper (I think it was the temp sensor).

The first 100KM of the highway is older, not so nice and makes the car vibrate. Once you hit the smooth highway for 200+KM its smooth sailing. Some trucks, but overall not too many cars. The road going north from Burgas gives some nice sea views but since its mostly two lanes there was some traffic. Got to Sunny beach around 5.30PM with two stops.

Going from Sunny Beach down to Sozopol is also a nice drive along the coast. Sozopol streets are very crowded and full of people so driving is at a snails pace. The beaches near Sozopol give for nice picture opportunities. Didn't have time to take pics in the old city but there is limited opportunities there.

Driving back from Sozopol and my aircon seemed to not function very well, and it was really hot outside so was a bit hard on myself and GF. We left at 12.30, 3 stops and back in Sofia around 6pm.

For 5 days and ~800KM took about a tank full of gas.

Unfortunately I didnt take many pics of the place, most of what I took are of my GF or the car :)

Travelling about the Bulgarian black sea:

Gas back and forth to Sofia cost 100 EUR

You can find very cheap places to stay, starting from about 30 EUR a night for non aircon apartment to 60 EUR for a 3 star hotel (where I stayed in Sozopol), and maybe 120 EUR for all inclusive 5 star resort. A night at the disco cost 120 EUR (Granted I was drinking Lagavulin which is one of the most expensive they have).

Food is a bit more expensive than the rest of Bulgaria because of the added markup they do from the place being a vacation spot. A normal meal for two cost me 20-30 EUR, while a fancy fine dining fish restaurant cost me 125 EUR.

There were alot of other cars from around, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, and some from Netherlands and even UK! Particularly a very nice CLK AMG from the UK parked right outside my hotel in Sozopol.

Overall, its not the Bahamas, but its very nice for a cheap holiday in Europe to see some old cities, eat some good food and relax on the beach.

Some more pics

Interesting... is the local food good? Wine/beer? It's not so terribly far from Istanbul...

Has anyone done the Dalmation Coast (eg Split etc).
Local food I would say is average. It alot of pork dishes and alot is smothered in yogurt! Grilled food is ok, if your from Turkey there's alot of turkish food places here also. Saying this however, there are some places in the black sea which really do know how to cook and serve so just have to be lucky. If you go to Nesebar or Sozopol I will let you know those two good restaurants I was at.

Istanbul isn't really far, you could go to 2-3 places on the black sea and back in a few days.

Wine/Beer is normal, nothing special. There is a liquor close to arak called rakia. Most are made of Plum. It's good if thats your thing.

Dubrovnik is one place I really wanna go but not sure I will drive there. I'm planning to go to Serbia for 1-2 days but not any further. My next report will be in 1-2 weeks when I do the Transfagarasan highway in Romania :))
