Just wanted to start a thread on this meet so others can start putting in their comments/thoughts and also attaching some teaser photos.

First a big thank you to Dan for planning this trip and to Durk, our pathfinder :tu:

Great to meet everyone again: Durk, Todd and Grace, Paul, Jason (LynxFx), Dan and Lauren, Alex and Virgie (Qship). We started with 6 SLK's (4 R171, 2 R170) at Adelanto, CA and met up with no. 7 (Qship et al) at Stovepipe Wells inside Death Valley at roughly 3pm.

Teaser photos to follow.

Edit:

Summary of events for the 2-day one-night trip. It was awesome. Great company, great views.

Day 1: Met up at Adelanto (9:30), lunch at Olancha (11:30), fueled up and headed towards Death Valley National Park, quick stop at Father Crowley Vista; met up with Qship at Stovepipe Wells Village(2:45), toured the north end at Ubehebe Crater, then Scotty's Castle nearby; headed out to Beatty and checked in (6:00), filled a couple of vehicle's washer reservoir with some Heet; dinner at Denny's inside StageCoach Casino (7:00); 3 others went for pizza and the place only had one oven while there were 5 orders ahead still waiting to be filled:(

Day 2: Checked out and went to Denny's for breakfast (9:00), toured Rhyolite ghost town nearby; proceeded to south part of Death Valley National Park and toured Zabriskie Point, Artists Drive, Badwater; lunch at Crowbar Cafe and Saloon in Shoshone (3:00); said our parting words, hugs and hand-shakes, headed home (4:00).

Teaser photos

At the meet up point in Richardson Park, Adelanto, CA

SLK's just parked outside for lunch. Six SLK's made it to lunch about one hour before the estimated time. We had favorable cruising speed :biglaugh:

Group photo at Death Valley National Park entrance (this was after LEO vehicle with flashing lights passed by at very high speed, 2 vehicles in our group stated that they detected his radar a few miles back)

I forgot what this one was but it was a BIG serving and the guy who ordered it finished it all in less time than a SLK55 reaches 100kph

Whoo-hoo, made it back in one piece. Man that was a LOT of rain on the way back home. It started lightly sprinkling within a minute of leaving Shoshone where we had lunch today and which marked the official end of the run itself. By the time I hit Barstow is was cats & dogs style, when I got close to the Cajon Pass it was biblical.

I learned that Hankook Ventus are not the greatest tires at moving water. I was hydroplaning something fierce a few times. Scary stuff. Downloading pictures now.

Just got back an hour ago (9pm local time). The hardest part of the last 2 days is driving home on a crowded freeway in the rain and watching out for other cars (esp SUVs going at 70 mph in the rain )

Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics held well in the rain and I was driving through pools of water on the no. 1 lane (passing lane) at moderate speed 50-55 mph. Bone tired from the drive home. I'll take a look at some of the photos taken and post maybe tomorrow. Braking moderately hard in the rain was sure-footed as if on dry pavement.

Hope everyone got home fine and incident free. A big thank you to everyone who came and for a nice tour of Death Valley (my first).

Made it home around 9. The 15 was getting backed up something fierce, plus all of the rain so I decided to go the round about way on 138, I'm glad I did. The rain let up and no more heavy traffic.

Thanks for an awesome weekend everyone! I really didn't know what to expect from DV. It surprised me in more ways than one. I got some cool pictures and I know others did as well. I'll post mine as soon as I can go through them.

Thanks for the pictures, looks like a great time. Unfortunately couldn't make it, had to complete the move this weekend, and now I have to spend some weeks emptying boxes ;/

Great weekend and my first trip to Death Valley. Drive home was a bit hairy with the rain. Like Eddy, we got home at about 9 pm and I was totally exhausted, unlike some unnamed passenger who got to sleep the whole way home:). I-15 was a total mess, so we cut over to I-40 which helped. The tires handled the rain well. There was a huge pool of standing water on 15 near Hesperia and that was the only time they felt loose. Major drainage issue there.

Anyway, I'll upload some photos and try not to repeat what others have posted. Some member's rides on the drive up 395 to Olancha:

Ubehebe crater and Scotty's Castle.

The winds were really howling at the crater, hence some prefering to stay in the car.

Scotty's Castle was a short distance away, yet the wind was calm. The door to the clock tower has a sign on it that reads "Private Residence." Resisted the temptation to knock on the door to find out who lives there.

Rhyolite and Badwater basin.

The house in the photo was built in the early 1900s out of bottles. The photo with the boxcar shows how much transportation has changed since then.

Nothing but salt for miles around at the basin.

Hey guys, what a blast. We didn't make it home til almost 9 pm too, however my Generals held the rain great! I was very impressed (previous posts) with the old General UHPs however they stopped making them. I now have the "next gen" General "max" and they grip fantastic!
Anyway, I'll upload my pics tonight (470 pics, a couple of videos). Many of them are similar to the above pics however I have a LOT of us driving.
Here's a couple fun ones though...

This is the only way possible to get a SLK230 to run circles around a SLK280.

Dan was less than impressed once my dust settled on his car...
