{UPDATED 04/12 with Sylmar meet-up spot.}

With all the water we've been having this winter, the Gorman Hills are bursting with wildflowers!

Most of the runs that are organized in SoCal center around some twisty mountains begging to be climbed as fast as possible, but this trip will be a bit different, being really purely a sightseeing event.

Join us on this upcoming Saturday 4/16 for a drive to Gorman Hills, north-east of Los Angeles to check out the wildflowers, followed by some eats (lunch location t.b.d.), and optional Lake Hughes twisties for those interested!

We plan to meet at two points along the way (so far), so you can decide what is more convenient.

First waypoint is near Lake Forest, Orange County at Peet's Coffee and Tea on El Toro (CLICKY!!), at 8:30am, driving off 15 to 30 minutes or so later, depending on # of sign-ups.

Second waypoint is in Sylmar at the McDonald's near I-5 and Roxford (CLICKY!). We should be there around 10:20am but of course this depends a bit on traffic. We'll leave there perhaps 15 minutes after the OC folks get there (hopefully we won't be delayed by traffic too much).

From there it will be a quick drive to Gorman Hills (CLICKY!!), on I-405 and I-5. If anyone wants to set up other intermediate meet-up spots, just give us a holler.

Right in my area!! sorry to say I will be out of town this weekend.

If you're looking to break up all that highway driving, exit lake hughes road in Castaic and head up through Lake Hughes / Three points. Then take the 138 West to Gorman.

For those in LA County, do you have a preferred/proposed 2nd way point where we can meet y'all before doing a caravan to Lake Castaic then Gorman?

Feel free to copy and edit the roll call, and add a waypoint.

1st waypoint so far is as stated by Durk: Peet's Coffee on El Toro Road, Lake Forest, CA 92630.

Would appreciate your opinion on the following route to Gorman (just going by Google Maps):

1. North 5
2. Exit Lake Hughes Road (go on a generally northward direction)
3. Left on N2 or Pine Canyon Road (northwesterly direction)
4. Left on 138 (going west)
5. Right to Gorman Post Road (continue northeasterly direction), stop somewhere
to view wildflowers

6. Possibility of going across the 5 to N Peace Valley Rd to see if there are more places to see wildflowers

I am not familiar with the roads or scenery of the above route, but would appreciate your opinion or of those who know the area well.

If we can meet at the McDonald's off of the 5 fwy at Roxford Street that would be cool. It is just before the 14 fwy interchange.

Consolidating the updates here. I think this is what we have right now; feel free to correct.

Roll-call:

1) Durkatlon (OC waypoint)
2) etyu (OC waypoint)
3) Serious (Sylmar waypoint)
4) 06SLK-Noob (70% probability, Sylmar waypoint)
5) gizx1020 (Sylmar waypoint)

I added a secondary way point ("Sylmar waypoint") at the suggested location, which is McDonalds near I-5 & Roxford (CLICKY!). It looks like that's about 1h20m from the first way point, so assuming we leave at 9:00 from Peets, that puts us at McD's at 10:20a or so (assuming no traffic, which is a big assumption :D). I'll make sure I'll keep you guys posted on our progress from OC to Sylmar as we're en-route.

I propose that we leave any twisty mountain driving for the return trip, after the flower fields. I'll take a look at the routes and we can discuss who wants to do what on Saturday. It looks tempting, but I'm bringing my wife who's generally not particularly fond of vomit-inducing driving :D.

Gahh, sounds like a great run. Sadly I'll be moving at the end of the month and weekends are too precious to have fun at the moment. Enjoy everyone and know I'd be there if I was able. Cheers!

Just updating the roll-call with "maybe"s I heard about through PM. Note, if you're a "maybe" and you don't txt me you're definitely coming on the day of the event, you have to make sure you're on time at your waypoint! :D

1) Durkatlon (OC waypoint)
2) etyu (OC waypoint)
3) Serious (Sylmar waypoint)
4) 06SLK-Noob (Sylmar waypoint)
5) gizx1020 (Sylmar waypoint)
6) Electr0 ("maybe", Sylmar)
7) doe (Sylmar)

It should be a gorgeous day tomorrow. Forecast for Gorman is sunny and clear, with a high of 73.

Hope you all have a fabulous day... take lots of pictures for those of us that can't make it.
My future participation is going to be iffy for awhile as we are presently caregiving.
