I just wanted to ask the question and not get hassle please, just a view

So I have had my SLC 43 for 2 weeks and had an invite to the AMG Private Lounge come through

I always remember in days when I had my first PORSCHE and it wasn't until I drove a 911 that I was accepted into the fraternity...

So is there a dislike for the SLC 43 as there doesn't seem to be much love for it

I did consider the SLK 55 but just wanted a newer car, hence the SLC 43

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark

In the sense that the AMG plaque on the engine indicates a hand built engine, the slc 43 is not hand made but production line made hence no plaque on the engine.

MB deems it an AMG so it is. You got the invite, so sign up :D

As far as getting a new car, ie. r172, the 55 was made up to 2015 believe

I can’t see why there isn’t much love for the 43.
Ok, so it doesn’t have a hand built engine and it’s not a V8 but that’s the way Mercedes is now going with the AMGs and they are still special compared to the rest of the range.
I actually think it looks good and sounds awesome.
Come on guys, give it a chance.

back in the days they did not have a fancy badge on the Motor and it was a
true AMG.

MB calls it an AMG it says probably some place on the reg papers it is an AMG you got the invite now go and kick some V8 Hooligan Bums:grin::grin:.

Just my 2 Cents of thinking of Course

I've never seen anything that says "hand built V8 = AMG." I'd say "full torque at 2000 rpm instead of 4000 rpm" is more AMGish. All I know is that today I found myself on a rare deserted road and nailed it, and my rear end was still wiggling up until 70 when I had to lift for traffic coming up. Someday gotta try it with traction control off.

If Luigi is having a bad day, a team-built engine might be better. :)

In the 55 the other day, nailed it on the motorway after blipping to get a change down to 5th. Damp road, 70+ mph and the little orange triangle going berserk as the rear end breaks traction. AMG's are great fun if all their guises.

There is an AMG owners group on Faceplant and they seem to think that the only real AMG's are C63's, I've left the group to their own devices! They can get to 60 1/2 a second faster but I can do it with the roof down and at 1/2 their fuel consumption
:)

MB slowly started getting more and more involved with them about 25 years ago so it has been a long time coming and since 1999, AMG has been fully owned by MB.

I don't have an AMG but think that AMG cars, with hand built engines, will become rare and collectable in future.

That said, my son has just ordered an AMG E53 Coupe - I'll take a look under the hood when he gets it but doubt it will have the signed badge on the engine.

Time moves on and things change .....if MB call it an AMG.................

I think if MB had their own way the SLC would have still have a V8 with 500+bhp and a wiper on each side window so you see where you were going when going
sideways in the rain.
In reality they have had to follow suit with all the other manufacturers in getting the emissions to a set level to prevent global warming (which is a shame as the warmer it gets the more we get to go topless)
Be thankful the 43 isn’t powered by a 1.6 3 cylinder turbo.
Yes, I believe the V8s will become sought after collectors cars but in a few years, when you have to plug your AMG into the mains every day, the turbo models will be as collectible.
Next you won’t be able to buy a roadster because some do-good politician will say the UV rays from the sun are bad for you and then any SLK / SLC will be collectible (even if you can only drive it whilst covered in a UV protective suit).

We are an inclusive forum.

Of course we love the SLC43. I’d love one.

A supercharged V6 SLK32 is an AMG, what’s the difference to a turbocharged V6 SLC43?
Both loaded with performance.

There is a long list of Ferarris, right through to the late 1990s that had no more horsepower, or acceleration than a SLC43 and some only got 8mpg! Even the Ferarri 360 only has same 0-100kph and power as SLC43.
Heck, a US spec 308GTB from the mid-80s had about as many horses as my SLK320!
And we expect to get 300,000km from our cars,

To me AMG = One with the lot! That’s a SLC43.
Today, you can have you cake and eat it too! While they last.

As an analogy, which category of people most frequently repeat the mantra "Size isn't everything"...

I remember the most recent Grand Tour episode where Jeremy Clarkson drives the AMG GT. He said it's the first AMG he's driven where he didn't burn through a set of tires. He said it himself when he said that AMG is supposed to be crazy and you buy one so you can drive sideways to work!

About all the AMG moniker really means is the engine is hand assembled! I consider that option to be totally worthless. I'd prefer my engine to be put together on an automated assembly line, less chances for mistakes. The guy at the AMG facility might drop his bratwurst into one of the cylinders! Anyway, AMG is supposedly responsible for the design of Mercedes high performance engines, suspension systems, etc.

Your car is likely denigrated, because the K in SLK is now changed to C actually a pretty dumb move on the part of Mercedes. The car has lost its identity with its predecessors. Also the car needed an update in a lot of areas like the interior, the integrity of the body structure, etc. Seeing the model is a slow seller probably due to the SUV craze, Mercedes didn't want to spend the development dollars especially considering the car is soon to be axed from Mercedes lineup.

Frankly, I wouldn't buy it. I don't want a twin turbo V6 due to possible issues with a new engine design. Also, the price is very steep on this car. When I buy a new car, I always purchase at the end of the production run for a model, for example my car was close to the end of the line.

You know, I rather think he has. He's a fan of high temperature silicone or is that silicon? Maybe both?

Think it's the Diamond Grill that gives the SLC43 the Marmite Factor....

Totally agree - Having been to Stuttgart last year and seen in person the AMG Engines being hand built (and "dry tested" at every stage) it didn't in My mind look that much different to seeing the Porsche Engines being made by hand by multiple people on a production line (and "dry" tested at every stage)....!!

But what they do in still to anyone that visits the AMG Engine plant (just out side Stuttgart), is that every MB model that is a "Real AMG" has had a complete AMG make over. So a "real AMG" is not just a body kit & some AMG wheels, but an AMG Engine, Gearbox Software, Suspension, and handling ect, that makes a complete AMG package.

Though it's a shame the SLC AMG version doesn't have a fantastic V8 engine under the bonnet/hood, You have to be grateful they didn't just drop in a "A Class" highly-strung 4 pot 376bhp turbo AMG engine in the SLC......:(

Instead the SLC gets a V6 Turbo engine with 367bhp or now for 2018 builds the 390bhp engine from the C43 Coupe:

I know what you mean but I happen to like the diamond grill and now that you have F1 champions / MotoGP & super bike riders (real men driving / riding the most advanced machines for real men), wearing diamond rings & diamond earrings, it can’t be classed as a ‘girly thing’ anymore......if you catch my drift? LOL.
