When changing interior -air filter under dash at passenger side, a small broken spring was lying on the underdash plastic panel. Obvious it come from dash at passenger side. Any ideas ??? Size is 40 mm broken. Around 45 mm complete.(1 3/4 inch)

I know this is an old thread, but I've got the exact same problem. My spring is even broken in the same spot.

I've removed the glovebox, vacuum reservoir, and vacuum element, but I can't access the area where the spring connects. I tried to remove the passenger airbag to gain some additional access, but after removing the four mounting bolts, I can't maneuver it out.

I read in http://www.slkworld.com/slk-r170-class-diy/33742-air-recirculation-flap-inside-outside-cabin-air-problem.html that someone managed to replace the spring without removing the dash, but he doesn't give any detail. Does anyone have advice?

Thanks
