The '32 I bought a few months back had tires (conti sport contact) with plenty of tread left, but when throttle wide open I'd get wheel spin/traction control lurch when the transmission upshifted from 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 (not sure about 4-5 ... not sure if I've been WOT at that shift point).

I discovered the tires were eight years old - they must have been mounted by MB when the sold the car as a CPO (the previous owner put 9k miles on the car/tires since then). Needless to say I didn't want to be driving 100MPH+ on 8-year-old tires no matter in what condition they appeared to be.

I bought a full set of Michelin Super Sports hoping they'd be sticky enough not to lose traction when upshifting WOT, but apparently not ... anyone else have the problem of too much torque for what are marketed as max-performance summer tires? I know I could have bought softer/stickier tires but I want them to last more than 5k miles :)
