Hi there,

i am a new member from germany. i am 44 year old father of 2 nice children (13/10).
i recently bought a 2002 slk32 amg with very low miles.
it only had one owner before and is completely stock with no modifications.
i will leave it like it is instead of some perfomance modifications.
i allready bought a 65mm pulley and will fabricate a dual air intake system very soon.
i am happy, that i found this forum because there is no forum like this in good old germany.

will start a new thread soon...

Hi and welcome from Kent, England.

Please keep us all posted on how your performance modding goes and supply pics if you can.

Would be interesting if you could get before and after dyno figures as well to see any real gains.

I will be watching with interested for obvious reasons.

Welcome from North Carolina, U.S.....also have a 32 that is stock..still thinking about whether I want mods or upgrades. Keep me posted on what you choose. Is I'll do the same. You could check my thread for "mods". I asked dolls what they would recommend. I got a lot of good ideas.

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

Wow!

What a nice welcome!

Thanks to everyone!

I will keep you informed on the performance mods.

I did some research on the internet what can be done. What i have learned so far is

in general (self experience:grin:):

do not max it out: for example too much boost, kills engine`s especially on wot / german autobahn:surprise:

on the slk32:

1. it is possible to gain about 30-40 whp on a "good" dollar/hp ratio.

2. everything above and i have to spend big money (long tube headers, throttle body etc.) for "only" another 30-40 additional whp:

3. cooling mods: keep the iat`s on the lower side and add the cheapest hp`s

4. reduce backpressure as much as possible (exhaust mods ).

5. reduce wheel/tire weight as much as possible: i am going to order 8 x 17 O.Z. Hlt Alleggeritas`s. the reduction of weight is expected about at least 10 lbs per wheel/tire to the amg wheels (40 lbs total:surprise:), as you probabely know these are rotating masses. it will feel, like having a much lighter car.

i am pretty sure the wheels will be the most expensive additional parts on my slk32. ahh... and everything else instead of no 2 will be done on the slk32:wink:

@Der Flieger: no i would never buy a blue 170

I would say you can get to 350-360 rwhp pretty inexpensively. Stock most dyno around 290 rwhp and, interestingly, 290 rwtq. I dyno'd 363 rwhp with a 62mm pulley and typical mods. The last time I dynoed, my car put down 409 rwhp and 415 rwtq; I think I am getting close to what's possible reasonably affordably. I am almost done with the mods I intend to do, but I want at least 415 rwhp so that I can say it's an estimated 500 HP at the crank. :) That should be no problem.

It you were to switch over to E85 (huge pain) or inject NOS (risky) then I think 450 rwhp should be attainable. I don't want to go down either of those roads though. I have seen what it looks like and that is not what I want to put up with.

Your best bet on a turbo/supercharged car is always to focus on the mods that will allow you to run more boost.

Confession: I actually LOVE the dark metallic blue the SLK32s came in. I don't know what the color is called.
