SLK vs SLC

I think overall, it is splitting hairs deciding between an R172 SLK vs R172 SLC. The differences, in real day-to-driving or ownership can be minimal to significant depending on your "must-haves".

Owning an SLK is by no means considered "slumming" compared to an SLC. The two cars are practically the same, save a few cosmetic changesAbout the most difference is a 9-speed vs 7-speed tranny... The motors are same, same engineering, same suspension, same interior features... all from MB parts bin... bcos MB didn't spend any more $$ on R&D for a model that sells way low in quantity.

A MY2015/2016 SLK is closest to the last production end for the SLK and should have quite a few more features standard vs one built b/w 2011 to 2014. But if looking for a fully loaded SLK for sale, expect it to be very difficult and will require patience, especially now in the summer months when such cars are in higher demand/use.

I am not sure how things work in the UK, but here in the US, trying to buy a car to "flip" after 1 year is a losing plan bcos of the depreciation of cars in general. But if that is your only option, at least include that in the plan, and expect to pay more for the newer SLC in a year's time.

If it was me, I'd just look for a MY2015/2016 SLK350 and be done with it. This model is the overall best blend of all SLK/SLC models... fast and smooth engine/tranny, economical mileage, equipped with more standard options over the 200 or 250, and the motor will never let you down in any circumstance...

Whichever SLK/SLC you buy, you should enjoy it rather than wishing it was something else...

Good luck

Thanks, all. How would I know if a car I'm after had an original list price >£40k?

And a SLK350 R172? I thought the 350 died with the R171.
Nope. MB built R172 SLK 350 from 2011-2015 (EU) and from 2012 to 2016 (US). John (@Johnkat) is a 2012 350 (see above). Mine is a 2013 350 (see below).

BTW, for @Smudge, just to clarify what I meant by "same engine" for R172 SLK/SLC, I am referring to non-AMG motors, that is, R172 SLK200 = R172 SLC200; ditto, an R172 SLK300 = R172 SLC300. Sorry if that wasn't clear in my previous post.
