I have this posted in the Midwest area, but thought I'd post here also.

I have organized 2 meets for MR2 Spyders and have a route and eating locations that work very well. The meet will be Saturday, June 4th and start in Spencer IN with breakfast most likely at The Canyon Inn- McCormick's Creek State Park(http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/inns/canyon/ ) . We would hit the tarmac at 10AM and drive some terrific twisty roads to Story Indiana and eat lunch at The Story Inn( http://www.storyinn.com/ , it's reported to be haunted!!!). Upon finishing lunch we would retrace the route back to The Canyon Inn for dinner, and the end of the day.

I can post the exact route if anyone would like and it can be "followed" on Google Earth.

Ok, the beginning location will probably be the Putnam Inn in Greencasatle IN as this will increase the amount of time between breakfast and lunch, and lunch and dinner(which means "you'll be HUNGRY" when we arrive at the meal locations.
So, here is a bit more detail, as in location and times;
Greet,Meet & Breakfast; Saturday, June 4, '11 at The Putnam Inn, 400 N Jackson St, Greencastle IN, 8:00AM 'til leaving promptly at 10:00AM.
On-the-way-to-lunch Break location; Bedford IN. This will be approximately 12:00PM Noon and will last ~15 Minutes MAX!
Lunch; The Story Inn( http://www.storyinn.com/ , it's reported to be haunted!!!), approx. 1:30PM.
Return trip Break; Bedford again, and time will be ~1hr15min after we leave TSI.
Dinner; probably at Old Topper Steakhouse and Pub, ~ 2hrs after the last break.

The entire route will be close to 300 miles with ~ 6hrs total driving time. I heartily suggest you bring something to drink, soft drink/fruit juice/water as it does get warm.

I will post the road names/#'s/miles after I've finalized the route(which will hopefully get done this Sunday).

Later!

Super!!!
Webeinky, I have a route from South Central/Seymour IN down to Leavenworth IN(The Overlook Inn, a very good place to eat) and back to Seymour + one that runs down to Madison then up to the Brookville area(near the IN/OH border). Another time, for sure!

Chavali, where in IN are you located? I'm on the Northside of Indy. If you're familiar, I can see St. V's Hospital(West 86th St) from my back yard and I've seen a few SLK's in the area(a Gold AMG?? on Hoover Rd) and an SL plus a couple on the IUPUI campus(I work p/t there...I gotta' pay for my SLK addiction...).

I hope to get a decent sized group, 35-40...JUST JOKING!!! I DO hope we can get 6-10(or more would be nice) SLK's & SL's too.

I will be getting the route on Google Maps as soon as I get it "verified", which I hope to do this Sunday.

More news to follow!!!

p.s. Gregg, you KNOW I'm not ignoring you :tu:

Thank you for the offer, but I really do have nearly everything under control. I'd rather do the leg work so anyone who does participate can just enjoy the time.
I've not been able to do a full pre-run yet, but I should get it done no later than early May. The weather hasn't helped, and I was going to try to do it this last weekend, but a former c-worker/friend died and I went to his wake. "Life's a bitch and then you die"...

More later, and THANK YOU again for the offer, Srini :tu:

I am in the Greenwood area - let me know if you need any help with setting this up

I'm going to give a bit more general detail.

Plan 1. We will "meet/greet & eat breakfast" from 8AM 'til 9:45AM. During this time, get to know your/our new friends, down some breakfast, take some pics, whatever. At 9:45AM, there will be a short "meeting" in which I will expound that SAFETY is the first rule; no crossing yellow lines, no tires off the road at apexes no speeding through the towns and burgs we pass through. Very simple stuff.
At 10AM, we will hit the road, period. In approximately 2 hours we will stop in Bedford IN for a short(no more than 15 min.) rest stop. This is NOT to be used to get a bite to eat UNLESS one has medical needs(aren't I thoughtful?) We will then continue our drive to our lunch location, The Story Inn, in Story IN. This section will take approximately 1:15. Again, during lunch, one can eat, gab, take pics, whatever, BUT, I hope to get back to driving in 1:15-:30. We will take another break at the previous location(again, a short REST stop), then complete the drive back to Greencastle IN for dinner.
The approximate time frame is 3:15 from breakfast to lunch, and ditto for the return trip, so around 6:30 + each individual's own travel time to and from the meet.

Plan 2. I HAD an idea to start the meet in a different location, but it would be much different, with much less time between meals. A meal would be eliminated, lunch, and just reverse the route to get to the late afternoon/early evening meal. This route would start at The Canyon Inn/McCormick's Creek SP in Spencer IN(breakfast + m&g) drive TO/THROUGH Story IN, and reverse the route for the late afternoon/early evening meal at a location "to be determined". This would be around 4+ hours total driving time...

Plan 3. OR, plan #2, only start with lunch, do this drive and return for dinner. These are the restaurants times;
Breakfast: 7:00 - 10:30 AM
Lunch: 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Dinner Fri-Sat: 5:00 - 8:30 PM. If we start with lunch and leave close to 1PM(~1:30 for meeting, lunch, pics) we could be back ~5PM for dinner.

I am avoiding bigger towns/cities/tourist-traps, due to traffic and stop lights/signs as these waste time. There will be no planned stops for pics. This is a driving meet, not a photo-shoot meet, either way we do it.

So, anyone who IS interested, PLEASE make a post and give me your "vote". When I organized to first Spyder Meet I asked for input. I received NONE, so I did it my way. Some people weren't happy, but they NEVER gave me input. For the 2nd SM, I used "our" plan #1. People complained they weren't hungry at lunch or dinner, due to the relatively short time between meals(~2:30).
I don't want ANYONE to NOT have a good time, but my plan is to meet, eat and DRIVE R)

I know of only 4 people who have expressed interest(including myself), so, the poll is open, #1, #2 or #3... Let me know ASAP please.

Thank you, any and all, for your interest.

I am think I am leaning towards plan 3 also. But would be open for anything.

If we did plan 2 or 3 then what area are you thinking about for dinner, someplace around Spencer, IN. I am just thinking about a place to stay for the night.

Sorry for not responding sooner; I had to get my beauty sleep, and it takes a loooong time :(

Plan #2 would probably be eating in Greencastle( I think I mentioned Old Toppers Pub and Steakhouse in an earlier post).

The Canyon Inn IS an INN, and it looks very nice. my wife and I didn't look at any rooms, but the restaurant(lunch AND dinner) is very nice(not fancy, but sharp). This is definitely the best location in Spencer. There is a link in post #1.

webeinky, I'll put you down for #3.

Anymore voters?

Mark,
My "unvarnished thoughts" as dad would have said........

1) I like #2 best...starting in Spencer puts us on some awesome roads as soon as we push off and in my opinion it is a much better location than Greencastle to meet. That way we could also enjoy the drive to the meet starting point instead of cruising long distance on the Interstate. The roads in the Spencer/Bloomington/Story area south of 70 are much superior to the Greencastle area for spirited driving and the terrain is more varied too.

2) Four hours of driving on twisty-curvy roads is plenty considering it will take 3+ hours round trip to get to/from the meet. That's 7-8 hours in the car and that's enough for me. Six hours drive time plus commute time in option 1 seems too much for the inaugural Midwest SLK meet. Time between meals being too close is not really an issue for me......just eat more or less depending on one's appetite.

3) I know this is a driving meet, but a short 5 minute break every hour or so of drive time should be planned. Surely someone in the group will need a bathroom break or a chance to change drivers. The meet is recreational, so we don't really need to be in a hurry?

4) The mid day idea is best I think because it builds in commute time, is generally the warmest w/ no fog for best top down cruising part of the day, and it gives everyone a chance to get home before late evening.

Finally, thanks for carrying the ball on this meet. I know it is a lot of work on your part. I hope everyone submits some ideas for your consideration. The more invested we all are...the better the meet will be!:tu:

The vote as of 8:15PM, Friday, May 6;
1.
2. l (Gregg)
3. ll(Srini, webeinky)

Gregg, I appreciate your thoughts, but here is my critique;
#1. Not everyone will be having a nice cruise to the starting point. AND, as I stated in post #12, the late meal would be in Greencastle, at Old Toppers Pub and Steakhouse.
#2. So, for SLK Meet #2", it'll be ok to do the long drive?
#3. We will not be stopping every hours for rest stops. Are you or Linda gonna' "rest" in a cornfield or the roadside bushes? In the first Spyder Meet, using option #1, there was only one problem with the distance and time, and that was rectified in #2. This short of a drive should be no problem for anyone. If one thinks they may have a problem riding/driving for 2 hours, this probably isn't for them.
#4. webeinky is coming from KY(I don't know their location), and I doubt they'd be home by evening. Also, there was no fog to hinder anyone's driving in either of the Spyder Meets, but there was a light rain for 20 minutes at the start of #2. I really don't think that would be a concern....but ya' can't fool Mother Nature!

It's my pleasure to get this organized. The great majority of the "work" was done 3 years ago for Spyder Meet #1, and honed/refined for #2. This is a piece of cake...Bavarian Cream Cake!

Again, if anyone else is interested in joining in on this event, PLEASE VOTE...or, just show-up at the chosen location and time and have a great day regardless!

Let me broaden this a bit; this meet is for ALL SLK's AND SL's ... in case anyone thought it was limited to just SLK's (I guess I should have this in the "title"...).
Sorry if the meet "sounded" exclusively for SLK's :eek:

Hey....you asked for input so I provided mine. I would have been ok with option #2 or #3 and no there was no plan to hide in the cornfield or bushes. The idea of stopping every hour or so for a couple of minutes to change drivers or use te restroom didn't seem like a big concession to me. Its about everyone's comfort and the opportunity to share this recreational SLK experience with our partners. From your post......"If one thinks they may have a problem riding/driving for 2 hours, this probably isn't for them." I understand your point.

Yes Gregg, I did ask for input, and I appreciate your thoughts. I was just explaining my take on those thoughts, sort of point/counter-point, not for arguments sake.
My point of the corn fields is this; there are no places to stop along the way, other than Bedford(a planned stop) and The Story Inn(1/2 way between the the Bedford breaks)... and I will not stop and use a businesses facilities without spending some $'s there. We ARE stopping for breaks after 1 hour and 2 hours after that. Surely, that is enough. Again, if one cannot survive 2 hours...
This is not a "social gathering" as such. Yes, there IS time to "greet/meet/eat/gab/take pics" built into the meal times(i.e., 1:30 for lunch), but the emphasis is not on sitting or standing around, it's on driving...and driving in a spirited fashion. I do believe we discussed this on the phone.

If someone, you or anyone else, wants to set-up a more laid-back cruise/meet, by all means, do so. That isn't my cup-of-tea, but I'd probably do one, but this is not one of those.

I HAVE posted on Benzworld.org, and invited anyone there who isn't here to join in on the fun. I will be making the decision on which option before this coming Saturday and posting the info.

Later :Beer:

We have very different ideas on what would work best for everyone. No need to keep restating those points. Hope it all works well.

Thanks again for organizing this event. I am sure we will have a great time know matter what rout we take. I will am in the north east part of the state in Owensboro, KY so not too far away but I am sure we will say overnight. I love my SLK but that would be a long day in any car.
