SLK Ashland Oregon West Coast event May 5th, 6th & 7th 2017

Sacramento Valley SLK Enthusiasts are inviting all West Coast SLK'ers for a road trip to Ashland Oregon for the Shakespeare Festival May 5th,6th & 7th 2017. What you need to do now is book your rooms now in advance.Val Bachmayer (a SLK owner) has agreed to host up to 6-7 couples at her Ashland Guest Cottages, you must contact her by phone at 206/650-3000. Once she is booked she will try to find more rooms.

General info.
https://www.facebook.com/AGC-Ashland-Guest-Cottages-Vacation-Rentals-in-Ashland-Oregon-606903032762307/?fref=ts

Just book the room for now before it's gone. We will have more info later. Preview looks promising I just don't have everything planned just yet you just need a room reserved right away before they are gone. You can always cancel 60 days in advance.

Ideas I'm working on for that weekend

Friday drive to Redding and stop for lunch, maybe go to Burney Falls or the sundial Bridge, and head up north to Oregon for Friday night event. Saturday we go for a drive and Saturday night we go to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for a play, Sunday we will have another drive and go to another play Sunday night, and come home on Monday. More details coming soon just book a room. That's all I have for now. Thank you

Don, please cross-post this on Beaver State SLKs. I'm definitely interested, and just emailed the wife at work regarding this. The Festival is doing Julius Caesar next year, which is an absolute must for me. For I am an honorable man, are we not all honorable men? OK, so I couldn't let this go without a quote.

The Beeksters (Greg and Nancy) are in. I just got off the phone with Val and reserved the loft room in the carriage house for us. This may be a year away, but it's going to be a blast.

Wifey says OK. Awaiting other members from SoCal to respond. Do we need to call right now to reserve rooms?

SoCal members:

1. I am thinking of one night stay at Sacramento area of thereabouts (dependent upon Friday morning's meet-up location) the night of May 4, 2017 (Thursday) so we can meet SAC members May 5th morning. May 4th will be spent driving from SoCal to NorCal (roughly 7 hrs w quickie pit stop). We can caravan (starting from San Diego to OrCo to Los Angeles counties) and gather members as we go north if needed.

2. Another night stay on the way back in NorCal on Monday, May 8th.

3. May 9th (Tuesday) will be travel day going south back to SoCal.

Will need to take off work: May 4 and May 5, May 8 and May 9, 2017 (presuming one doesn't work on weekends).

Book your room now Eddy ETYU before it's too late 1 room left!
I had talked to Val and gave contact info and room that I was interested in. I'm hoping I am one of the 6 that has room reserved.

Update: Val called me back this morning. I do have a room :tu:

Eddy,
I was looking forward to a time when SoCal can do an Oregon trip, but that weekend has Mother's Day and other family functions written all over it!
Jan says I should just go.. But you know, after all these years, I know There Will Be Consequences!

So have a safe and wonderful trip!

It'll be great to have y'all in Orygun!

I have a little house less than a block from "The Bricks" at the festival. You can actually leave the Elizabethan Theater at intermission, and use the bathroom at home (avoiding the lines), pour a class of wine, and still get back to the theater in time. The house is currently rented, but the tenant is often away on business, and we've been talking about sharing it among both of our friends/family circles. Since the location isn't zoned properly for Air BnB style rentals, it'd be like staying at a someone's vacation house, not a BnB. Let me know if anyone is specifically interested, and I'll double check dates with my friend/tenant.

Restaurants: I'm highly opinionated about restaurants in Ashland. I like to say, "There are many expensive restaurants in Ashland...and some of them are worth it." There are also a few totally-worthy mid-priced restaurants, but sorting them from the chaff is a trick. If you care to hear my opinions, I will share.

Drives: Dead Indian Memorial highway is an 8 mile, 4k ft. twisty climb into the Cascade foothills...super fun. I think that you can then cut south on Hyatt Prairie/Lake Rd and come back into the Rogue Valley on Hwy 66. Another beautiful twisty descent with views of the valley (for the passenger, driver better keep their eyes on the curves). I'll double check the low-car appropriateness of the Hyatt Rd in advance.

Wine: There are 125 wineries in southern Oregon right now, and twice that many commercial vineyards. Several are within a few minutes of Ashland, and if you're willing to drive your convertible through provincial landscapes reminiscent of Tuscany, many more await. Southern Oregon is the newest "New Napa." (My rural home is surrounded on 3 sides by soon-to-be Chardonnay vineyard that used to be pear orchards.) I'm not totally "winey" but can give some feedback. I can only comment on the vibe, view, and architecture of a few of the venues. Aficionados, do your homework on the actual wine.

I have lived in Ashland for 18 years and absolutely LOVE the town. Thus, I'm happy to share it's gems with visitors. I'm just proud of the place.

Keep me posted!
Ben

Count us in........but without SLK. I just made a reservation 22 minutes up the road at the Southern Oregon RV Park in Central Point! I will be towing a 5th Wheel so I won't be joining you on any drives but we sure would like to meet up with y'all to tip a glass and break some bread :) ! Hey, maybe come by our camp site to roast some marshmellows one evening.
