Hi everyone,

some of you might know that I write books about Mercedes cars. My latest book/books will cover all three SLK variations and will be published on amazon in December. In this respect I have one question to you, as your opinion is important to me:

Is it for you better to have each version of SLK (R170, R171 and R172) covered in a separate book or would you prefer (as I have done with my two SL books) to have them all featured in a single book.

If they would be covered separately, each book will have around 180 pages and would cost around $30. If I would put them into one book, this book will have around 450 to 500 pages (it has fewer pages per version, as some parts of the book such as the history of the roof for example and other stuff does not have to be repeated three times). This book will cost probably around $50.

Each book will cover with small variations the following topics:

Here the example of the r171 book:
SLK200 Kompressor, SLK280/300, SLK350,
SLK55 AMG R171 (2004 - 2011)
Mercedes SLK: How it all began
History of the vario roof
The SLK vario roof
Trouble shooting the vario roof

Many thanks,

Bernd

P.S. As I need as much feedback from you guys as possible, I will ask the same question at benzworld.org

Hi Bernd,

Whilst I can see the benefit of having all three variants in one book, my personal preference would be for a book in detail about the car I actually own.

Good luck with the Comand & Options sections! :D

Looks like I have myself a Christmas gift to buy after all.

Hi Bernd, My personal preference would be three separate books. Would rather have one book dedicated to the R172 than a book which only 33% of it's content was relevant to the car I own. But I would probably buy anyway whether it was model specific or entire range.

I think the progression in a 3 book SLK series would be a nice coffee table addition to my new home [wink].

Each model deserves it's own book. I certainly want the 170's to have their own space cover to cover.

Put it all together, please. While I own an R171, I want a publication that covers the entire span of the car's model history. One book for $30 or three-in-one for $50, the latter is by far the better value.

Good luck with your endeavor whatever you decide and am looking forward to your book(s).

Thank you very much for your kind input, gents. You have been of great help!!

As it looks from your answers, the majority wants to have separate books, so that's the way I'll have them printed. I hope that you guys, who wanted it all in one, will understand.

Btw, the books will also come out as e-books. But from my other books I know that most people prefer to have (at least, when it comes to a car book) a printed version.

If you allow me, I'll let you know, when the books will be out. Thanks again, Bernd

Also am in favor of 1 book, specifically interested in the R171. Looking forward to the release and the write up about the 2Look Special Edition. :D

Will there be a signing? We might all converge and dominate the autoworld!
Now that would be fantastic, Gregg 0:)0:)

Ok gents, here it is: all three individual books are now available as e-books. And as most of you wanted, also printed versions of each individual version are in the making. The first printed one, covering the R170 is already out. The next one, covering the R171 will come by the end of this week. The R172 book by the end of next week.

For anyone, who is interested, here is the link:
Amazon.com: mercedes koehling slk

I very much hope, you'll like them.

One more thing, if you allow me to say that. I am just a small scale author with a passion for Mercedes cars. If you like, you can leave a review with Amazon. It would help me to get a bit of recognition. As a thank you, I will give you any of my e-books as a free pdf. Just send me an e-mail and the pdf file will be on its way.

Take care, Bernd
