That one has been on there a while so you may be able to knock them down a little (I like to keep an eye on whats about :D).

I notice the interior has been carbon fiberised, looks like a good job. Obviously wheels have been done non standard colour. I'm not sure about the black series badge on the back though :biglaugh: Not saying any of these things are bad, some are good infact. But they are not standard. Just makes you wonder what else isn't and as its from a trader they aren't going to know. Could save you money on that stuff though if you were going to do it anyway. May be it even has a smart top already!!

Older model = less tax and performance package stuff as standard though so bare that in mind. Mileage is pretty low for age, ask if things like transmission fluid change has been done, brakes, etc.

If all checks out and you like the colour combo and options then why not? But as Woolly said, it is a little pricey so try knocking them down!

Ooh thank -you for all the advice so far.....

Really am tempted, I have never driven a car with an engine this big and powerful.....been driving my little vauxhall Tigra convertible 1.4i...for the past 7 years.....Will probably email the dealer and request a test drive.....which i get nervous about and never know what to ask!!

They can be intimidating places for a girl!! (Well an older one anyway.....)

Anything else I should look out for and should be asking?

I have to give a contrary position. The mileage is low and the front spoiler is pristine. You might be able to talk them down a bit, but I think it's an excellent looking car.

Test if both seat heaters work. If not, it's good ammunition to reduce the price.

Have a look at the SLK buyers checklist. I'll dig out a link to it.

Also, it would be worth taking someone along with you who is not 'emotionally involved' with the car - obviously, they can't go on the test drive with you (unless the dealer agrees to stay behind ), but they should help to keep things in perspective.

.. .. ..and the front spoiler is pristine.. .. ..
In the UK we don't get the strange parking kerbs that you tend to get in the States, nor we do have as much rubbish on the roads, so pristine front spoilers/bumpers tend to be the rule, rather than the exception.

Hi all,

Just an update on the slk I was interested in in a previous post... I went and had a look on Friday, and was surprised to find the car was advertised at £19,999 and not the price as advertised in Autotrader of £18,989. I was also surprised that there was no paperwork.....just a couple of stamps in a service booklet which the dealer had to get a duplicate copy from the dealer in Nottingham.....

The car itself was a beaut. No air scarf, which I was again surprised at being a high spec car.

I also need to get used to a different driving position.....as I'm used to almost sitting on top of the steering wheel...so need a more relaxed approach!

The dealer offered £2,500 for my little Tigra and would not reduce the price any further as he said he had already reduced it by £1k!

So I walked away from that one and the search continues......preferrably a blue one, but these are very rare....

Hi all

Well done not grabbing the keys & riding off , Take you time over this , I would say go & test drive a SLK of different engine sizes 350 200 etc , just make sure an AMG is what you need . Im not trying to put you off I love our 55 & owned it for over 3 years now . But as you said you have been driving a 1.4 for years & it would be a big jump up ,not knowing your level of driving skills , good luck with the search & remember the members here have a lot of infor & willing to share .

Cheers

That is waaayyyyyyy too expensive.

I would value my mint Fire Opal Red which is in almost factory condition and has done 44 k miles at about 16k.

There seems to be a few slightly cheaper ones that have been driven by Captain Kirk and conversely there are others which in my opinion are way overpriced and will simply not sell.

I would say around 15k for an 06 in good condition with about 40k miles and up to £16,500 for a one in perfect , and I mean perfect condition.

Hope this helps

Did you get the test drive? What did you think?

You made the right decision to walk away. Way over priced.

Yes I did get the test drive.....It was an out and back near the dealer, so was limited to doing no more than 40mph. Not ideal as I couldn't really let rip!!

I will have to get used to a more relaxed driving position tho. I'm used to sitting quite close to the wheel and pedals as my legs are on the short side!! Its also the first time I have driven an automatic....

I was really surprised at how quiet the car was even with the roof down...

Will try more models including manual transmission in smaller engines....the search continues.....

If you come on an SLK outing you can get an ear full of a few 55's with 'altered' exhausts. Behind the *****cat standard pipes there is a very aggressive beast trying to get out! :)

A 40 mph drive is useless to experience a 55 especially if you are not used to a car as powerful as this! The ability to get sideways at a roundabout although fun could put you off if you are not expecting it. The SRS will keep you in line but it has its limitations. Aggressively planting the right foot at 60 or 70 on the motorway will break the rear end loose under some conditions. The car is a performance machine!

I've been driving for 40 years and had a few high performance machines and to be honest, in the UK an auto box is the dogs ......... It just takes all the hassle out of driving.

>> edit - just reread this and it sounds terribly condescending, it wasn't meant to be that way at all.

Blue one came up in manchester about 6 weeks ago but was only on autotrader for 2 days. Was 16250 with 33k on the clock. Type III wheels aswell, 05 with the 6 pot front brakes..... caught my eye!
