I am original owner of my 2006 SLK 350. I don't drive it during the winter and keep it covered in my garage. Well this year I didn't start it enough and the battery died. I jumped it and and all went well and figured I would drive to give the battery time to charge. However a soon as i started out I noticed that my Comand Center/ Navigation was not working. I hit the power button and the Mercedes Benz logo comes up and then it just shuts off. I tried ejecting the DVD in the trunk and re-loaded it but still same problem. Everything worked fine before I put the car away for the winter and I have never had a problem with it until now. I read like 80 pages of post and didn't see anyone who had this exact problem. Any one have any idea what could be causing this and what is needed to fix it ?

After jumping the car and driving it and I can start the car now. What does the Battery have to do with the command center/ Navigation not working? Or maybe I don't understand something.

So a couple of thoughts -

1] Low Battery on any Mercedes is a troublesome thing, as many of the systems detect low voltage and refuse to work consistently. This is also something that's pretty easy for you as the owner to test and fix.

2] COMAND booting to logo only and then shutting down *normally* means that one device on the MOST ring is not present, or that the ring itself is "broken" - eg unable to initialize. This is more troublesome for you to troubleshoot, but pretty trivial for your dealer or someone with StarDiag to troubleshoot.

3] Depending on what country you are in, there are at least three and more than likely 4 or 5 devices on the MOST ring. A fault on any of these can completely shut the ring down and cause the head not to boot. All devices listen to the CAN-BUS for a wakeup signal to startup.

If it's easy for you to have the battery tested, I'd do that as a first step. If that proved not to be the problem, I'd be finding an Indy or making a trip over to the dealer for diagnoses.

Before taking it down to the Indy, try pulling out the fuse associated with the radio head and navigation unit, starting the car, turning on the radio (with the fuse pulled) to make sure it does NOT turn on, then turn off the car, put the fuse back, turn on the car and try again.

I believe the fuse is 41. It is shared by the navigation and radio unit.

If that doesn't work - Indy to check on the MOST devices in the lineup.
