I'm new here, just bought a SLK 350AMG and was looking for the best place to customize/upgrade my SLK. I am familiar with all of the speciality stores for Corvettes and the such, but do not know where to begin with SLK's.

Thanks for your help, and excited to start the modding!R)

Welcome to the forum! But...what's an SLK350 AMG?

Lots of places to go. Check here for a list.

And hit up google, you'll find quite a few more.

Enjoy the modding!

It's probably an SLK 350 w/AMG sports package.

Welcome to the forum, do make time to read through many of the areas of discussions as there are plenty of stories, pieces of advice and comments as to the best ways forwrad for mods.

I too am an owner of the SLK350 'AMG Edition.' This is a special option package which featured the AMG rear pipes and muffler box, AMG bodykit (same as that on '55), and lowered suspension. The 7G box is the same as that of the '55 (that is the gear ratio's and learning function). the interior features the same schemes as well as the '55.

As far as mods go so far I have done a few 'basic NA' mods and the results have been mixed - that is some have definitely been far more noticeable than others. For example I have had an ECU upgrade which didn't produce any noticeable power gain but the throttle response change makes driving under full acceleration better. I have installed Green Filters (which are a great inexpensive and easy to do yourself mod). They add a great induction sound and a very small amount of power (1 - 3 HP tops). The best modification for power thus far though has been completing the exhaust system. I have added new headers, front pipes, steel cats and rear pipes from Supersprint and the changes where excellent. There is plenty more power, acceleration (especially at top end) and the car is a lot faster (maybe .2 - .3 sec’s faster to 100km/h).

The best money I have spent thus far though is on the H&R adjustable coil-over suspension. The car is so much nicer to drive fast now the steering feel is stronger, the ride firmer and flatter through corners and the cars looks a lot better IMHO. The ride sacrifice over the AMG lowering is not that much at all in fact I haven't noticed and difference on smooth roads only that when you hit bumps there is more a of harder ride. Another thing I noticed which is excellent has been the improvement in braking - definitely an improvement.

As you haven't mentioned your country I cannot help with thoughts on places to go however having personally spent some time reading the discussions on this forum I have personally come to the conclusion that stick to the reputable Europoen brands for parts. Their quality and engineering is the best. The 3 top brands seem to be Brabus, Carlsson and Lorinser however there parts are expensive (although you are paying for their time and effort spent to ensure that your car may remain legal in many parts of the world). I haven't gone with any of these personally but they are all good options as most people here that have any of these products are happy. There are two other brands I have found which take mods to the next level, ABT and Kleeman. From these two companies there are supercharger and internal engine parts (cams etc), big brake packages and so on. Other brands I have found and researched include MKB, Vath, Renntech (USA). There are more I just remember them all. Each have websites which are all informative although if you are interesting in power be wary of some of the power claims especially those regarding ECU's.

Find a workshop though that purely specializes in only German car tuning. Many will do Audi/BMW/Porsche so don’t worry about finding a Mercedes only tuning shop but do find one of these. This is of no disrespect to any universal tuner but if you read any response from DanSLK (the forum resident guru) his caption is correct: "nothing with German car’s is easy…." Know that special knowledge for thus is a must!!!!

Here are my thoughts for you…. Work out what you want to achieve, do you want more power? Improved looks, wheels, handling? Do you want to simply add some non-performance enhancements (wind restrictor, roof controller) etc and then work out stages of upgrades. The first one perhaps as it is cheap and easy is buy some Green Filters and on the weekend install them yourself. From then on it is really up to the goals and desires you have what to do. I am into improving the way the car drives thus power, handling and braking. One piece of advice if you are doing any plans for power upgrades never ever ever overlook brake upgrades – they are your saving grace at the end of the day!!

Feel free at any time to PM me and please let me know what you work on and send us all pics!!!

Good luck and look forward to hearing more.

Dan.
