Some other key threads. Note post 5 in that first link.
Apparently the car would start with a flat battery (which you likely had).

@M4rCu5 is one of our brains on these cars.
I see no links :p

I'm with the rest of you guys though.
Seems that the Immo Chip and Transponder Ring are not on speaking terms and assuming that nothing else apart from the fob has been touched, it seems likely that the chip is still inside the old fob and hopefully not fallen on the floor

How the hell does one get rusty batteries anyway ? o_O 🤷‍♂️

I changed the whole think like new key fob and battery . And I’m pretty sure the chip was in. The old key fob which I don’t have any more
The chip is tiny and so easy to miss and that's what I was afraid of ~ either that or it fell out and got swept or hoovered up and thrown in the bin

Throwing the old fob away though ... Aaaaaaargh! 🤷‍♂️

I think I'd be digging through the trash about now

We all make mistakes now and again, let's just hope that you can get it resolved now that we know what's happened (y)

To OP @Sharkey1989

Well looky here, looky bloomin' here, (and remember where your like button is :p) ...................

Carefully scrape away the top part of the plastic on the Valet Key ....

.... and underneath is the wee chipamabob ....

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

BTW last time I bought a Valet Key they were about £60.00 for 2 ;)
Who's a clever boy then? - nice one maestro :p:love:

I just order a valet key with the chip in it from MB and since the car can not start they were able to program the key with just the vin number . I just need to prove that the car is in my name and I registration and it was only $47 and will be ready in a few days. Hopefully this will be the end to all this. I will keep the key fob with the buttons to use to unlock and lock the car since that part still works.
I'd have ordered a pair of them, a spare may never be used but it's peace of mind (y)

As Dave has already said, after testing that it (or they) actually work, pickle the chip out and glue it into the Fob - JD (Job Done)

Be sure to let us know how you get on :)
