Hi all,

I am getting ready to do my ECU TCU tunes from eurocharged. I want to keep my stock TCU stock, so i picked up a second TCU from a 03 slk 32. So my question is... will the second TCU i picked up be plug and play? Eurocharged wants me to test the tcu first, which i have no problem with. However they are going to wait to send me the usb to obd2 cable for my ecu tune until i send in the TCU in. I was hoping to get the ecu done right away and the TCU when i have time to test it. In the end i just want to know if i need to worry about the new tcu from the 03 slk 32 not working in my 02 slk 32. any help would be fantastic! I had talked to Latemodel21 and he siad he had swapped a number of tcu's in and out of his 32's with no problems, but further clarification would be stupendous.

Hi,

Yes Chris is quite correct, all SLK32 V6 Cars use the same TCU, plug and play !!

A lot of other Cars use the same p/n TCU or a revision of it, they are just version coded different for different Diffs / Trans Gear Set combinations.

If you do get a ratio error as soon as it shifts, plug the old TCU back in, use SDS to copy it's coding, then plug in new one and paste the coding ............... Simples
Note that the last sentence will only apply if you are using a same p/n but from a different Car like say CLK etc ;)

HTH,

Cheers Dave

@Dave2302, i know the slk32 tcu has a number of different p/n's from 02-04. but as long as it came from a 32 i should be all good? the TCU I have from the 03 32 has a part number of A 030 545 30 32

As a update, I just asked the seller of the tcu if he had the vin number of the 32 it came off so i can verify that it did come from a 32. ran the vin and it was a 03 slk 32 in silver. so at this point I should assume that it will be plug and play in my 32?

If it is an EGS-51, those are non-programmable. Being an 02, yours might be EGS 52.. make sure the one you are getting is the same.

but everyone is correct. plug and play as long as you have the same diff ratio as the car the TCU came from.

That's what I said above lol

I'll try and explain clearer

Basically the part number has 'naff' all to do with it, (as long as it plugs into the loom, EGS 52) it is down to how it was coded at the factory, there are loads of revised p/n's.

This applies to a whole lot of MB Modules, especially on higher spec cars of the same era, W220 S Class CL C215 etc etc ............

PSE, SAM Units etc etc they can have a lot of part numbers revised, but even if you fit an identical one it can have different version coding ;)

This is why every DIY owner should buy SDS ( $499 cheapie), it pays for itself over and over again :wink

Hi,

Hopefully this will clear it up and not muddy the waters further >:D

It will be EGS 52

Same Diff Ratio and internal Tranny Gearset, which is where being able to re code them comes in handy if you're a hot rodder

AFAIK all 32's have same gearset and diff, so yes, it should be fine as long as it came off a "facelift = tiptronic = EGS 52" SLK 32 ;)

Early cars had 4-3-2-1 shifter which will be EGS 51, and later ("facelift") Cars had a tiptronic + / - Gear shifter so are EGS 52

AFAIK all 32's are facelift MY's because they didn't come out until late 2001 ;)

This definitely clears things up and thank you for the help! I think i am going to trust the person I received the new TCU from (that it in deed did come from a slk 32) and just send it off to eurochaged and do a little praying when i get it back and installed. If i had to recode the tcu would that wipe the tune they just put on it?

Hi,

I doubt that Version Coding will affect the Flash Programming, but personally I wouldn't take that chance, as I'm not exactly sure how their reprogramming works ;)

It takes 10 minutes or less to change the TCU, then you can run it for a while to make sure it's OK ;)

i assume you have SDS to do the Re Version Coding if it is needed ;)

I do have a shop that has the SDS near me so i can re-code. I thank you for the help! and I will definitely test the tcu before sending it out

Hi,

Good luck with it, keep us posted ;)

Now, what your Car really needs is Paddle Shifts, so a Steering Wheel with Paddles and Stereo Buttons that control an Android Multimedia System, which all looks like it came out of the Factory with it >:D

...............

And what my Car really needs is Paintwork that is as mint as yours, and a V8 M113 .................... Oh wait, that's all happening at the end of this Summer

Check out my thread here if you like a good read lol

Hi yes they will work with your Car, but you will need the whole kit from Chris, you don't have enough Wire Cores through your R170 Clockspring, but Chris makes and sells a very good kit with excellent instructions and this uses (I think) a digital Signal down the Horn wire that is converted via 2 small modules and then sent to the Shifter, which you need to modify internally by adding 3 wires.

This is all very easy for DIY, and Chris' Kits come with excellent DIY friendly instructions with pictures etc check it out with him.

It only works on Facelift Cars with "Tiptronic" Stick Shift, EGS 52 so it is suitable for your Car ;)

The Thread on my Project Car is right here on this forum, one below your thread right about now, Android install starts around page 2 post #32 IIRC but the whole thread contains some useful info and piccies, and being a facelift 02 V6 it will all apply to your Car too ;)

V8 will be going in this coming winter >:D

Hi @wislk32 ,

Yes, undo the 3 plastic retaining nuts, carefully lift the aluminium panel up, and tilt it backwards so it is laying down on top of the folded Carpet, and you will see a Black Box with EGS 52 and other writing on the Label including part number, s/w and h/w versions etc ;)

@Dave2302 Thank you for all the help! the car came out of storage on Saturday and as soon as I had her home I was out digging under the passenger side carpet. Found the TCU and swaped my stock one out for the new one from the 03 32. Cleaned up the carpet and off we went. shifts the same as my stock one and worked in auto and simi auto. So today my Stock TCU goes off to the good folks at Eurocharged to get get tuned up! i had always wanted to put in a sprint booster but i hear they dont play well with the Tuned TCU.... oh well. I will follow up with my findings when i get the tuned one back

Hi,

Great news, nice one :) .................

Paddle Shift next ;)

I don't suppose you could do me a big favour could you ? ...............

See my newest post in my V8 Conversion Thread, could you send me a couple of close pics (like the ones in my thread), of your Front and Rear Wheels showing Brake Calipers and Discs, either post them here or email to me [email protected] ????????????

I'm trying to confirm exactly what Brakes that Silver V8 Car in my thread was using to save me a whole bunch of messing around ;)

Cheers Dave
