Apparently the early 170 superchargers [pre FL 2001] were driven by a magnetic clutch. It engaged the supercharger at around 2700 rpms. Then in 2001, Mercedes phased in a constant driven supercharger with a 'pressure relief valve for excess boost. depending on the throttle position, the relief valve bypassed pressure from the compressor output tubes back into the air cleaner. Not all 2001's have the constant driven charger, . . you need to look at the compressor drive pulley and see if it's direct drive pulley or clutch driven pulley . . . After talking with a dealer mechanic about getting more preformance, I sort of question the pulley modification line of thinking . . the pressure relief valve won't allow too much pressure, so if you drive the charger faster, the increased pressure is bled off and not used for manifold boost . .

Pre facelift is sports a M62, facelift sports a M45. The M62 is larger/moves more air but spins slower and engages at 2700rpm. The M45 moves less air but is always engaged, they are not interchangable. By adding the pulley kit on the facelift years you can gain around 15 - 20 hp. Best to check with asp dot com and get the right numbers on that.

Hi Wislk32

Here's some info from a company on your side of the pond who rebuilds these things .......

SLK-32 Roadster AMG. V6 Supercharger Made for Mercedes-Benz by IHI Corp. Model M271 Eaton P/N 307960. AMG's use Lysholm and not Eaton. 2646 lbs of air per hour, converted over to CFM's its about 560, with the size in pulley difference on a G60 its about 470 cfm's or something like that.

They sound like the people who could help you out if your s/c is playing up :nerd:

Not a techie, but Jon Bond Performance Supercharger is another professional source. They do complete rebuild on YOUR SLK32 supercharger for about $900 last time I looked. They can probably provide pricing and expertise if you are wanting to put a smaller pulley on it to increase horsepower. ???. ??
