Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me please, what diff ratio is an R170 32 Kompressor running ?

Also can anyone give me a 32 K VIN Number so I can compare p/n's of the V8 Transmission Gearset against a 32 Gearset, it is just possible they may use same 4 pinion Gearset and Ratios ....................

If this should be the case, then a V8 Conversion can possibly use a stock SLK 32 MB SCN Coding in the EGS 52 , making life even easier >:D

TIA, Cheers Dave

According to the parts catalog they only came with the 3.07 ratio (Europe and US).

Thanks,

IIRC 320 V6 has 3.27 ?????

If so will still need custom diff ratio code, but I'll run all the part numbers later, I really must go do some proper work today, it helps pay for all the research and project cars

Cheers Dave

Correct at 3.27.

320 has 3.27 just like the 230. but the 32 has a 3.07 diff ratio.

all the 722.6 gearsets are within a certain percentage that the TCU knows no difference, and swapping them will not affect anything. I know because I have had 3 different transmissions in mine. CLK430, then back to the 230 for a while, then went with the CLK55 box before going manual. The only issues I had were related to differences in the SLK230 ECU and what was actually in the car.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the input, much appreciated ;)

I'm sorry @Turdo2, but right now I've gotta disagree that EGS 52 TCU knows no difference, I am 99.999999999999% certain it will throw a "Ratio Error" and go into limp mode if the Transmission Ratios don't match, same as it will throw limp errors if the Diff Ratio doesn't match it's coding, I don't know if earlier pre facelift / 4 cylinder TCU's are different  ...............

I am talking EGS 52 here, as fitted to R170 V6 Cars ;)

Years, like many many years ago, when we were rebuilding 722.6's all day long, we initially tried swapping slightly different Gearsets and every time the Cars EGS 52 TCU went into limp mode and reported ratio errors.

What I will do just to treble check if I am wrong, if and when I fit a V8 Tranny in my Car, I'll test it first without re coding the TCU

Anyways back to todays research plot.............

I've run the part numbers...................

Here are the ones I'm concerned with for V6 to V8 Conversion ......................

R170 32 Kompressor Transmission is the same part number as W220 V8, as are the internal gearsets.

So with a 3.07 Diff Ratio, we can use either a standard factory SLK 32 TCU, (might be a bit thin on the ground good used), or with SDS we can Version Code the 320 V6 Cars EGS 52 with SLK32 Coding.

One of the W202 Diffs is the same as R170 SLK 32 , p/n A 202 350 97 14 , also easier to get (in UK) is from a C 250 TD , 3.07 ratio, p/n A 202 350 62 14 which looks to be the same casing, again, the R170 V6 Shafts should fit.

There is also the W203 C220 CDI Diff which I think will bolt into the R170 V6, use the same Shafts, this has the 2.87 Ratio, same ratio as the W220 but the W220 diff Casing is huge and will not fit R170, I've already looked / measured my W220 to see if that was an option ;) I will examine the Diff in Mels C220 CDI, shape mounts etc, I can get them easy and cheapish in UK.

So the nuts of it is if you want to use the V6 Komp / V8 W220 Transmission for strength, then if using 3.07 Diff use SLK 32 Coding in V6 TCU, if using the 2.87 Diff then use W220 TCU or it's Coding. If using the 3.27 320 diff we'll have to see if that guy I know can do the custom coding for V8 Trans / 3.27 Diff Combo, or use the 320 V6 Trans, Diff and TCU.

When I install the V8 in my 320 I will initially be using the V6 Trans with the 3.27, later down the line I might do swapsies especially if it lunches the V6 Tranny.

I'll copy the info into my thread in Performance Modification ;)

Cheers for now, Dave
