Hi All, I am about to possibly become an SLK Newbie, but before I take the plunge I wanted to check a couple of things.

I am based in the UK and have just spent two hours at a local private dealer looking at an SLK 230K (Registered JAN 2000).

Overall the car is in very good condition, just a few very small rust marks that should be treatable.

All the electric windows work as does the electric roof, theres just a couple of things.

1- The alarm sensor has come lose on the driver side, is this easily reassembled or do I need to buy a new part, it looks like it may glue as I think something has broken.

2- The inner door panel by the lower speaker seems to have come away from the door, again, is this an easy fix maybe?

3- Whilst inside the car with the doors closed the interior light didn't seem to dim or switch off regardless of the light mode.

4- Whilst inside the car with the doors closed then central locking bottom on the dash didn't seem to do anything.

All in all it's a lovely vehicle and I am really very very tempted, I was just hoping someone with more experience with the original SLK could share some of their wisdom :)

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I don't know if this vehicle is classed as an R170!!

Many thanks

You're buying it from a Dealer... have them fix it BEFORE you take possession.

Same.

Same.

Does the key fob work? if not, the PSE has gone bad and is pretty common. It costs $300-$400 (usd) for another one. Not too difficult to replace. Once again, have the dealer fix this stuff.

Yes, R170.

How much is this car? SLK230's are not too expensive so you should get one without any rust, everything working, it very good shape for $10,000.
Personally, I love my 230 for a daily driver however I really wish I would have got a 2000 + SLK320. Better seats, 6 speed trans (manual), and an extra 40ish hp.

You might want to post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already.

If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
In addition, if you haven’t, please post your question in the appropriate discussion forum for a quicker response. Be patient and a knowledgeable member or guest will address your question.
If you wish to PM (Private Message) someone, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.

Hi and welcome Optimistique from Lichfield in Staffs. You're going to LOVE being an SLK owner. I've just sat down from washing mine - love doing that :)

I'd agree with Todd and have the dealer either fix the things you've spotted, or else give you a discount on the car so you can get them fixed yourself.

Can't wait to see some pictures of your new SLK, whichever one you decide to buy :)

WOW, thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated and yes I have decided to go ahead with the purchase and placed my deposit an hour ago and collect on TUESDAY!!!

Dealer said he would sort the door panel, the alarm sensor will glue and yep the key fob works fine so will ask the dealer to check out the light and the central locking button.

Nice to know it's a R170, as least I know what section to put my next post in and will show off some pics when I pick the baby up.

Can't wait 'til Tuesday now...
