Hi, my name is Fil. I have a 1998 SLK 230. I have owned this vehicle for 6 years and it has just developed problems with the roof lock hydrolic cylider. I have managed to open the roof manually and remove the roof liner, but now I can't lock the roof manually so that I would be able to use the car until I replace the cylinder. The roof will not close all the way into the top of the windshield because the parts that would be turned to lock it are not far enough apart to let the roof slide easily into the lockable position. Should I try to force the roof or is there a simpler way.

Thanks.

Hi Fil, and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

I can't offer any advice beyond the links that Jeff has already shared... good luck with resolving the issue.

Welcome from Madrid ...

Perhaps you might want to consider opening a new thread with a title referring to your problem with pictures of the position of the front locks , not everyone checks into the introductions and you may find more help that way ?

Here are two pictures of what the latches of the roof look like that are stopping me from completely closing and locking it.

To open the roof manually did you release the pressure on the pump and leave it released ?
Have you tried rotating the allen more to see if the latches open or manually open outwards the latches so they'll fit in place ?

I assumed that since the cylindar leaked, the pressure would have been released. Where on the pump do I release the pressure. As far as rotating the allan wrench, I have rotated it as far as it will go.

Thanks
Fil

Hi Fil, welcome from Washington, DC.

I can't offer any help with the roof issue but I hope you're able to get it sorted soon.
