Discussion Starter #1
My name is Nick, recently bought a 1999 SLK 230, 100K on odometer, runs good but interior trashed, and paint looks like they used spray cans. Top was working, replaced battery and starter, have codes P0500 and P1747 (i think those codes were active when top was working).

When operator switch pushed to the up position I can hear pump initiate, and it sounds like it goes through sequence ending with the windows up. When switch pulled to open position light flashes continuously.

Checked voltages at MFCU, top in up position

Pin 37 lid down (s69 7&8) = 0
pin 33 Roof down s69 11 = 12
pin 32 Roof closed s69 1 = 0
pin 30 roof lock s69 2&3 = 0
pin 29 operator switch s84 = 12
pin 28 operator switch s84 = 12
pin 54 luggage s69 10 = 0
pin 52 lid open s69 9 = 12
pin 69 trunk closed s69 12 = 0

checked the back of operator switch s84 when pulled to down position the wh/vt wire to pin 28 goes to 0 , and the gn/vt wire stays at 12
when pushed to up position the wh/vt wire to pin 29 stays at 12, and the gn/vt wire goes to 0

pin 69 trunk closed , and 54 luggage cycles from 0 to 12 and measured at MFCU

I do not know what pin 33 Roof down should measure in the roof up position? not sure what S84 operator switch should measure but it looks like it is working?

yes all those plus SRS
OK,
ESP/BAS is normally (but not restricted to) a faulty wheel speed sensor.
Faults on that system will prevent the roof from functioning as there is a safety protocol that kicks in that prevents the roof from opening above 7mph ..
Typically, a faulty wheel speed sensor or broken wss wire returns a value of 32000+rpm at the offending wheel and the ecu doesn't know what to make of it - implausible value - hence safety protocol, hence roof no worky.

You need to get it on a scanner and get those other issues fixed before it lets you have the roof.

---------------
An afterthought would be that as your battery has been off, you could try the steering angle reset of centering the steering wheel, spinning all the way to left full lock then right full lock and then back to centre .. sometimes works :tu:
