Hi all,

New to the forum here. Just picked up a used slk 230 and doing a bunch of DIY upkeep that the previous owner had not. Just performed an oil change and am about to do a tranny flush as well as replace motor / tranny mounts. When I was under the car this weekend I noticed the splash cover missing and it's a $150 part. Being that I'm replacing mounts, how important is that splash guard. Assuming it's been missing for a long time and prev owner did not know it. Also, I have a couple of guides, but are there any good videos on the slk motor and tranny mount installation?

Thanks!
JP

Forgot the introduction! From Wyoming here, enjoy our few months of summer driving with the top down. It's a 1999 Mercedes SLK 230 I picked up form a relative in San Diego. Had a great drive back, Mojave is hot as ever, and got to drive the SLK down the Vegas strip. Had it for just over a week now and its all broken down, getting maint!

Welcome from Hillsboro, Oregon! The belly panels in the engine bay of Mercedes-Benz cars have multiple functions. They smooth airflow under the car, and therefore improve fuel economy. They catch fluid drips, so your garage floor stays cleaner. They also keep road spray from getting all over everything above them, making the lower portion of the engine cleaner thus making any fluid leaks developing over time easier to trace.

thanks for your help, jbanks. Found those pelican articles, by chance are there any youtube vids floating around?

Also, regarding that question on the splash cover - is this the part? It should have 4 - 8mm bolts if I am not mistaken. When doing the oil change, this cover was not in place. Again, is it critical?
