I'm not bothered if folks want to 'AMG'ise their pride and joy.

I do have a problem advertising them as AMG.
They are not AMG.

Innocent buyers then buy thinking they are getting something that they are not.

There's others posted too.

Someone needs to sort this.:|

It appears that this done a lot, (as you might already know i purchased one )

so who is doing it?

too many to be your average joe?
(And possible to well done )
(Also does the average owner even understand )

is it the dealers ?

or who And why ?

(In my case the dealer played it down and pointed out that the motor was not AMG as they did not produce AMG motors in 1999 )

As in any good detective story Do we follow the money ?

Has any one found someone who has confessed to doing it ?

I think the owners doing it may not appreciate the truth, that it is not AMG.
There is no excuse for garages at all.

One of the threads is claiming 'factory spec'!
Dealer fitted maybe, but factory? I think unlikely.

Following your link that dealer appears to have 3 sus amg badged vehicles, so the point i am making is there seems to be to many, most people would not be bothered. And the main one having a amg badged steering wheel seams a bit extreame for you average joe.

for example here you will find the odd badged up GTHO ford falcon, but the numbers of badged amg's seems excessive.

I have been looking at other MB's and it seems the practise is not just contained to SLK's but wide spread.

I dont know what the answer is but it does raise some serious questions

Cheers

I don't know enough about this so I ask: I believe that only the "top of the line" (32 & 55) units get the badges.

What about those "not top of the line" units that get the AMG optional package? Do they get the badge as well?

My 350 2005 has an amg badge on the boot, apparently bought from new by the original lady owner from the dealers and the car came with the badge, it does not have the kit but did originally have 18 inch amg wheels and is very highly specced up with almost every extra available at the time, when i bought the car i knew it was not an amg, and was not advertised as, it doesnt bother me and have left the badge on, although it does appear that this badge was put on by the dealer or it came to the dealer with the badge, odd one really, maybe just a sales pitch i wonder

My Slk300 with AMG package does have the same suspension, wheels and most bumper parts front and back (Not side of bumper front brake vent) but it has no AMG markings on it at all.

Nowadays, any car with AMG package gets the badge.
Back then they didn't.

I'm more concerned at buyers thinking they have official AMGs when no such was available.

What folks put on their cars is up to them, but they need to own up when selling.

Hi to you all out there. I was searching last summer for an SLK 230 Auto and came across this very listing along with a million others that read/looked just as iffy.
I spent a lot of time trying to get some accurate info off of the seller and being told a few 'stories' that simply did very little for me to take a rather long trip over to Wrexam.
I asked about the car but got very little back that was convincing enough.
Although the car was advertised as an AMG in the listing title there was no further mention of it

The image that showed the young lady in the kinky black plastic boots and deliberately covering the legal registration plate in my opinion was as a deliberate distraction.
After the listing had eventually ended (unsold) I received a message inviting me over to view the car but declined on the basis that the then advertised cost along with the mileage and the registration year plus the cost of having the 'rust eaten wings' dealt with properly and further more I could probably find a genuine SLK 230 AMG for a more realist price and with less mileage.

Reading a lot of replies about cars that are trying to be passed off as AMGs. Maybe I'm old school, but if I've ever bought a high end car (MB or otherwise) I've always researched it first. All these cars sold as AMG will fall at the first hurdle in my opinion - opening the bonnet - if there's not a great hunking 3.2 or 5.5 etc with the engine builders signature on it - then it ain't an AMG in my book. And if a buyer doesn't know or look for that, they are not deserving of driving this marque 😏

Must admit it has me thinking, but "one man, one engine" at AMG and they have the builders plate on the engine.

Seller seems to believe its real from the AMG factory??

Not quite sure the sales pitch is all there though about being as fast as the SLK32 - always ready to be educated though.
Having read through the advert and description there are a lot of things that don't add up.

But hey, that's ebay !

No such thing as a slk230 AMG. Had an Slk230, before I found my current Slk32. The only thing the 230 would do is see my rear bumper get smaller! 😈😈😈. 😈😈

After buying an actual AMG recently (CLK55), it changes my perspective on this topic. I'm disappointed that AMG has let themselves become so big.. it seems like every new Mercedes is an AMG now. Back then it used to be special.

Hi Turdo2. The growth of the AMG name/organisation surely was inevitable otherwise they would have been a serious risk of becoming just another small specialist customising house as so many have become in the past only to be swallowed up or lost for all-time.

The alternative surely would have been to have stayed as they were and increased the costs of their products and then slowly died because they had priced themselves out of the market.

Question - Where do you think AMG engine technology will go next and especially as the car as we have all known and loved/hated will end up either powered by a bank of electric batteries or some other means ?

Have BMW got it right with there incarnation - the i8 currently at £112.00.

There is a serious risk that several manufacturers are creating insanely priced toys for the insanely wealthy - some of which will not cover a decent journey on the limited life per trip that batteries offer.
Then some one will renew the old adage about the sticking rich Arabs Rolls Royce being left in the desert because the ashtrays were full and then just called for another.
