Hi! I was wondering if any of you could help, see, today I parked my 2006 SLK200 at the gym and when I went back to it I noticed something different about the passenger's side mirror. It seems someone hit it or something similar, so it is displaced now, its a bit too extended and also the closing mechanism doesn't work at all. I managed to strip it down (following some awesome guides I found here) up to a triangle and a pin (picture attached) that I'm too afraid to take out in case I break it. All this got me nowhere and I have no idea how to fix this. Any way you guys know how to fix it? Will I have to buy a whole new mirror? Thanks in advance!

Morning and welcome

Please fill in your details on your profile as it helps no end - the Master Sarge will swing by shortly will a list of useful links and stuff

Can't really see whats wrong from the one small photo - you're going to have to remove the mirror from the car and strip it to find the damage, but given that these are cast it sounds like either a part of the frame has been broken, or the folding mechanism has been smashed - sounds like someones hit it and left without letting you know

Mirrors are easy to replace (3 torx screws and a couple of electrical plugs), but not the cheapest - you can buy them on the usual auction sites (main dealer prices for new ones tend to be a bit scary), and it doesn't matter if the one you're buying is the wrong colour as you can strip out the frame and use your own covers etc.....

Facelifted ones tend to be a bit more difficult to find than the earlier ones

Here I is!

Delvecchio,

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

First please update your location and vehicle (year?: 1996-2016, model?: 32, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Your 1st thread should be your introduction so we can welcome you properly so post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already. New Members Introduce Yourself Here - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM. You can always pm a moderator.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
FREE!! Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.

As Sean suggests, it sounds like they make have broken something in your folding mechanism and as it looks like you have electrically folding mirrors, they're not the cheapest to replace...

And they all fit on each car - ie, you can put facelift on a pre-facelift and visa versa

If mirrors have extra functions to those originally fitted then coding (and other hardware) may be needed to activate / use them

go careful when you remove that pin, that is one strong spring underneath!
clamp it up in a vice, then remove the pin.
I took mine apart for the same problem, took me a while to work out where the mirror rest in folded position and how far out it moves.
Mine had just jumped a cog as it were.
A lot of grief and I didn't think it would all go back together, but works perfectly now.

Thanks guys!! I'm awfulky sorry about the profile, I'll complete ASAP! Also, I'm going to try and do what Martin did, disassemble it past that triangle clasped onto the pin. Last time I didn't really know how to undo the triangle and got a bit scared when I saw the spring you speak of.
