shock recommendation

1196 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Mn car guy
I think it's time for a set of shocks as they appear original and the car is over 150K (miles). Im not looking for stiffer ones, just looking to save a few bucks over OEM. I did a search and read some negative stuff about KYB. Anyone have some aftermarkets that they liked?

Thanks in advance.

Very patient 3 week bump. Somebody help a brother out?
Bilsteins are always great. Check their website for applications; they do several versions depending on how stiff you want the damping and what kind of springs you are running. With lowering springs, shorter and stiffer dampers are needed. For stock ride height, you'll probably have a couple of choices of damping rates available to you.
I don't know if you have gone ahead and done the shocks or not but if you have I am thinking of doing the same in the not too distant future. I don't think they have ever been done and mine is a 1998 and now has 110000 kms. Do you like the shocks you choose? How is the ride now? How much did they cost? Would you recommend them to a friend?
Haven't done the shocks yet. I'll check out the bilsteins. I'm really looking for an inexpensive replacement. I'm not going to lower the car nor do I want to make it stiffer. It's just that after 150K, it's kind of loose and rough. I drove a 20,000 mile crossfire recently and it made it pretty obvious that a little suspension attention is warranted. It might be a month of so before I get around to doing something but I'll post results when I do.
