My car was last serviced just under a year ago (at an MB dealer), although its done less than 4000 miles since then I would expect it to be nagging me to book a service based on the time, but when I check the computer all I can see is "due in 6915 miles", nothing about the date.

Will it switch to saying "service due in x time" as it gets closer, or do I have to keep track of the time element myself? There's no chance its going to hit the mileage limit within 12 months while I own it - every other car I just do what the computer tells me to do, but this is my first Mercedes, and they seem to have their "quirks" :D

Be grateful it isn't nagging.
Mine overdue (can't get the parts locally).
IT beeps everytime you turn the key.

From memory, mine just goes on miles, but might trigger once date passes.

it does mileage or time, so when it thinks it is 30 days or less, it should change to days

so you know the date :D

service is 1 year or 13000 miles (used to be 10000 or vice versa) whichever comes first

Mine just started the nag (28 days) but it turns off when I start. IIRC, I will have to actually hit "OK" once that time passes by.

I suppose you could just reset it and just "remember" to get the servicing done.

Mine is 46 days past its B Service because of the dealer cancelling it due to COVID-19. The car was last serviced on April 6th 2019 and has done 2,700 since.

Mine is 8 days overdue. Luckily my local indie has just reopened so she booked in for next Thursday.

I know from the service paperwork when 12 months is up, but nothing on the paperwork seems to say it's due again after a year, and if I wasn't proactive and just went on what the car is telling me it won't get serviced for probably another 2 years :(

Maybe the dealer ballsed up the service reset, I would have thought they would have reset it to Service B too, rather than the old style Service D name?

So confusing.

Mine automatically changed from miles to days at about two years. I had only done about 4k since previous service. As I recall it went red and started beeping when service became overdue! In other words it's 9k miles or 24 months whichever is sooner.

I may be wrong but can we not check chronology in Dyno mode? I'll have a look when I get a chance.

24 months? Now I am even more confused 😂 what's dyno mode?

I would call the dealer, but given how useless the dealer seems to be I would probably end up even more in the dark 😂

Dyno mode.. our exciting best kept secret! Probably best to search but basically you turn ignition key to position two without starting engine. Make sure the centre cash display is showing mileage, press the little reset button on the side of the binacle three times quickly and it will show a new advanced menu. Takes practice but it's there . It's really designed to turn the ESP off to run on a rolling road (Dyno)

Don't worry Grumpydev - In the UK, services on the SLK 350 are every 2 years or 12500 miles, whichever comes first, and the display will count down from 30 days, having changed over from miles left.

Of course you can get it serviced every year if you wish, but it's not necessary if the correct oil is used and you're not doing frequent short journeys.

Our US friends have a different culture/thought process about oil changes and they have to visit the 'shop' every 3 days or 30 miles I think it is 😁

Hmm, so it is 2 years? Might explain why it's not tripped over to time based nagging then, still has a year to go - Is that "official" anywhere? The service book with the car doesn't seem to tell me any specifics.

From the MBUSA page 10 of the maintenance booklet (strange that I can't find one for MBUK--if that version exists, I don't know) but:

Engine oil and filter change
Change the engine oil and oil filter every
10,000 miles or 1 year. If oil consumption
should increase, determine the cause and
take necessary corrective steps. Do not reset
the Maintenance System service indicator if
the oil level is adjusted or changed outside
the interval of 10,000 miles or 1 year.
Take that for what it's worth.

Yes, definitely 2 years and it should be in the service book.
I have no doubt that what Leonardo has posted is correct for the US market.

If it gives you any comfort, I've had mine 6 years. I use a Mercedes specialist independent for all work once the MB warranty ran out. I once asked him whether I should be changing the oil annually. His reply was along the lines of Yes, I'll be very happy to take more money off you if you like but it's not neccessary!

So if it's only the oil change and "checks", you're saying to reset the "calender" to get rid of that annoying reminder .

No, the calendar only asks for a service on older UK cars every two years, nothing appears 12 months after a service.

Also a lot depends on how old Grumpydev's 171 is.

Up until 2007, MB used the ASSYST PLUS system and generally services were required every 18 to 24 months at mileages between 12.5k and 18k. The computer asks for a service A through H which is totally confusing.

From 2007 MB reverted to 10K miles or 12 months whichever is sooner, so you 2012 AMG would definitely be on the latter schedule.

Incidentally, my 2007 A Class diesel needs a service every 12 months or 15500 miles so it gets one every year. I'm not the kind of person who skimps on oil changes, but my SLK is a pampered third car and really doesn't need an annual oil change.

Mine is a 2008 model, which would now suggest it is every 12 months?

They don't make this simple do they? 😂

Your message is Service D that indicates 4 hours service but not the specific Service Items. If the items have been performed then the dealer has forgotten to reset the service indicator. since UK is different system than Canada I cannot describe the procedure but if you have the owners manual lookup Maintenance Service Indicator and it will tell how to check individual service items and how to reset the indicator. The Indicator Letters A,B,C, D denote approximate hours for the service ie 1, 2, 3 so D is 4 hours however you need to look at the Service Items to determine if they have been completed. Note if the battery is disconnected, as mine is for 6 months storage, those are not included in the countdown days portion as the indicator changes from miles to days.
