Hi guys I bought my slk 230 last week. I have just noticed that there's a rubber support missing in the boot. I think it's to support the roof when it's folded.

Where can I get one?
How do I call it?
Is it necessary?
What can I replace it with?

I've got 2 picts left side shows that rubber, right side missing with a hole.

I think it is necessary. It is the rubber piece that the roof rests on when it is retracted into the trunk/boot space. It looks the same as what is on the R171. Maybe EPC for the R171 may help.

IIRC, it's called Partition Panel Bumper, part of Body Panel, Rear Body and Floor, about $4.20, $3.11 at mymercedesparts. It some diagrams for the R171 it's part no. 5.

This is a very important part! It supports the roof in the trunk when it's folded down. Pretty cheap but smart piece of rubber :)
Sorry, Jeff, I was busy cleaning my breather system :) Pics are coming soon!

Am I such a newbie or what? :)

How do you find this part? Even google doesn't find "Partition Panel Bumper".

I found it going through the diagrams for the R171 at mymercedesparts.com. It lists the part but I couldn't get the part number off from their website. MB have a unique way of naming their parts.

Best way is to go to the MB parts department (hopefully they are not far from where you live), show the technician the part as it is attached in the vehicle, then he can search & order for the part.

Can you put a link directly to the part, please.

I found a local parts dealer that quoted me £50 for the parts and postage. for a tiny bit of rubber :-(

Link to my mercedes parts.com, this is for the R171 however, part no. 5 in diagram: http://mymercedesparts.com/parts/2008/MERCEDES-BENZ/SLK55 AMG/?siteid=215326&vehicleid=1440493&diagram=5767580

What I do not know is if it is the same size for the R170.

Do a search on R171 DIY about replacing the rear tail lights by Durkatlon. In it you will see a photo of how the Partition Panel Bumper looks like: round rubber piece with an arrow-head like "tail" to which one fits unto the opening inside the boot body trim.
