Roof & windows unresponsive

826 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  jbanks15
Hi all,

Hoping someone on here might know the answer to my problem. Due to a blocked drain channel the passenger side of the car got flooded with rain water.

Spent the day ripping out the interior and the passenger side carpet so I can finally start to dry everything out.

I reconnected the window switches, centre console switches and the vario roof switch and went to close the roof and nothing happened. Window and roof switch are totally dead. Yet worked perfectly an hour earlier. Air bag light on the window switch panel is also lit.

The roof is down but not properly stowed - keys were removed from the ignition before the roof could fully retract (not my doing!) so it folded up but the boot is open.

Just wondering if there is anything I have missed? Is there some reset procedure required after switches etc have been disconnected? Cant be anything more serious as everything was working fine an hour earlier.

Been doing some searches but can't seem to find anything that points to a solution for my problem. Hopefully someone else on here might have the knowledge!

Thanks

James

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

First please update your location and vehicle (year?: 1996-2016, model?: 32, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Your 1st thread should be your introduction so we can welcome you properly so post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already. New Members Introduce Yourself Here - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum

you could disconnect the battery for a minimum of 30 mins
then reconnect
but make sure you have your radio code before disconnecting battery
reset clock, try roof

check fuses?
Removing key mid cycle may have interupted it.
Another quick idea, is close doors and lock.
Unlock and start enigine, try to close roof.
This has worked for me on the two occasions I interupted the roof cycle.
You may have to try this a couple of times.

Hi Gents,

Thanks for the the suggestions - sorry for the slow reply, got fed up with the SLK so just stuffed it in the garage and forgot about it until after the new year.

I worked through both your suggestions and the roof / windows are still non functioning.

Everything is reconnected now - only thing that isn't is the stereo, but I doubt that would have any effect on the windows / roof?

All fuses are present, car starts and runs fine but the windows / roof are totally unresponsive.

When you suggest resetting the clock - are you talking the oddometer or the time (if the latter do I need to set it to 00.00?) Tried both but no change.

The only other thing I have noticed is that the Passenger air bag warning light is lit up and wont go out.

I was thinking about manually lifting the roof and closing it, in the hope that resets the system in some way but otherwise I am a little stumped.

Thanks for the help!
