If you want to DIY it, measure ohms resistance between ground and pin 33 on the roof module (Grey/Pink wire) while your helper closes and opens switch S69/11. It should fluctuate between 0 ohms and O/L. If not, it's the switch or the wiring to it that's bad.

Thanks a lot Dave,will work on it tomorrow after i've catch hold of a voltmeter from the DIY shop.
Question regards to the roof latches - when the roof latches closed with the allen key,it takes quite a bit of an effort to do it so i'm wondering if it's normal?

Hi,

I've only had to use the Key once on mine to manually raise and lock the roof that was a while ago, but IIRC there was a bit of effort involved ;)

Since I changed that S69/11 Switch it has been faultless ;)

HTH, Cheers Dave

I'm going back 3/4 years. But did several times fixing issue(s) on the 230.

Not a loose movement, but not particularly stiff either.
Try some lithium grease on latches and work it in.
Both in the roof front and above windscreen.

The frame of the roof closes this switch when the roof is fully laid back in the boot. In reality, it's not labeled meaningfully in your picture above.
So does it mean if the roof is up,this switch is not activated which tells the computer that the roof is up and it’s safe to open?

I don't have one to look at but IIRC the only switches with rubber covers that are problematic are the two on the latch rotary mechanisms.

Correct, but it's not the only input/switch used for"safe to open".

So you see in the TH video where he reaches in from the trunk and operates the switch? You need to do that while measuring ohms to ground on pin 33.

@efair
I think mercaddict is referring to the bellows that were on S69/1 S69/2 and S69/3 on cars produced up until Aug '99 that Klaus mentions @ 7mins ..

mercaddict has a '98
