Hi Guys
Can anyone help , My wife has a R170 2001 and i have just had a new Clarion head unit with flip out screen fitted and a reversing camera however the installer failed to tell me he could net get the camera i asked for and fitted a naf looking one. So i need to find a reversing camera that fits into the number plate light recess , i know these were available before but for the life of me i cannot find one, can anyone point me in the right direction as i know the misses is not going to like the one the installer fitted and it is her Christmas present. :surprise::frown::frown::frown

Hi Tim thanks for the reply, but none of these are what i'm looking for the one i want replaces the number plate light and the camera also has a light next to it for your number plate.

I bought one for my r171 from aliexpress.com. I just did a quick search and didn't see any built for a r170. I bet the r170 has the same lamp size as other mercedes models. For example, it might be the same size as was used on an SL or ML class. If you measure your license plate lamp you are sure to find one that will fit.

Stereo update, how did it go

Hi can I get your feedback:

I want to change my current 1998 SlK 230 stereo with one that has Nav, Back-Up Camera, and Bluetooth. The original owner put in a updated one in 2011 that has great sound and USB, MP3, and CD. The system, a JVC KDR200, did not come with the bluetooth add-on nor did he leave me the remote.

You mention you got a CLARION flip up. What model and is it working? Can you show a picture of it installed? Did you work out the license plate backup camera?

I am planning on doing a switch soon but I am kinda lost with which way to go any help would be appreciated.

I had a post in the general MB forum and haven't gotten any responses.

Hello , we had the VZ402E fitted and a universal camera , the head unit is working fine and the camera is very clear ,the head unit seems to be a very good choice. The intergrated number plate light and camera is a little bit more tricky, I have ordered a unit from China it is ebay number 171603651620 sony ccd mercedes benz R ML GL klasse Class R300 R350 R500 reverse camera, this is the nearest dimensionally to the existing MB one see the picture attached , it is on its way from China but will take upto 4 weeks delivery. When it finally arrives i will let you know, if it will fit and if it works. Hope this helps regards Philip

Aliexpress' policy

I bought one for my r171 from aliexpress.com. I just did a quick search and didn't see any built for a r170. I bet the r170 has the same lamp size as other mercedes models. I ordered a 171 camera from Aliexpress and it cancelled my order saying it needed more information from me than just the normal credit card info. It wanted a copy of my driver's license, passport, or social security card and at least one set of card payment and bank statement. I, of course, refused to have my identity stolen.

Did Aliexpress require that of you?:frown:

No, it did not. AliExpress usually has several different vendors post a listing for each product. It looks like you ran into an unscrupulous one. Try a different vendor.

Curious, this wasn't the vendor (who had the most sales of all selling the item or similar ones) it came from Aliexpress itself with a link to their page telling me what I needed to do.
