Hi,

I'm about to fit an Android H/U to my R170, and would like to add a C Class Steering Wheel and get the buttons for Call Answer / Hang Up, Volume + / - and Track < / > working.

I know the W203 Wheels and Airbags swap over, and physically fit but I presume I will have to see if the Clock Spring Steering Angle Sensor swaps too, unless the R170 item already has the extra terminals ??

Also as far as I can tell the CAN protocols are the same between R170 and W203 so as the H/U I'm using was built for W203 should be no prob with CAN Comms ;)

Anyone know if this has been done, or am I "the pioneer" as usual

If so is there a thread anywhere, (yes I have searched but not found anyone who has done this in depth info etc)

TIA Dave

Hi,

Well today I have bought an EBay used C Class W203 Steering Angle Sensor Squib as they have extra Cables passing through, it looks very similar to the R170 unit, so first task will be to make sure it will physically fit the R170 Column !!

I'm fitting the Head Unit etc this weekend, and I will see if H/U will recognise R170 CAN Bus for power up and reverse gear selection (Camera Screen), if that doesn't work on CAN Bus, then neither will the Wheel Buttons, so I will have to use hard wiring for all of it .....................

If that is the case I will look at how much grief it's going to be to hard wire the Steering Wheel Switches through the SAS Squib and back to the H/U, it may not be worth doing if it's too much grief, but on the other hand it will be a cool mod, maybe for later next year ;)

Cheers Dave
