Does this sound weird to anyone.

I have full electric mirrors for adjustment on the center console with the round knob and buttons but the button to retract the mirrors is missing.
I figured it would be all or nothing in that area, was this actually optional?

They fold from the outside but not retractable electronically.
See your owner's manual if you haven't for such a feature

From Sean

You don't need Parktronics for this feature, but you do need the correct mirrors

Check your mirror adjustment switch (near the gear lever). If the middle button has a picture of a folding mirror then you have the feature - if not then you don't.

Simple enough to retrofit - you just need the correct mirror switch and two replacement mirror 'frames' with the power folding mechanisms.

They come up on evil bay now and then - the mechanisms from a R230 SL can be made to fit as well.
New, they are fairly pricey.

No coding needed unless you want the autofold on lock-unlock convienience options. If no coding is carried out they will work from the new switch only.

I've done this myself - take a look here

Cheers
Sean

Electric folding mirrors is a specific option for most markets, you can have electric with memory and not folding.

I can't believe it doesn't have it.
Who sells powered mirrors and does not have them retract.

Then again who in their right mind would order this car with the power windows and NOT the retractable.
I don't get it.

Could the hardware be there but not the coding for it to work?
I doubt this because no button but I don't know.
