Really needed the AC to work on my new to me 2001 SLK today but it was blowing HOT air at the driver and cold air at the passenger. The AC compressor is doing it's job but apparently temperature selecting wheel on the panel is not working or at least that is how it seems. Extremely hot air blowing at the driver and cold air at the passenger with both temp wheels dialed into the blue cold range. Any idea's?

Thanks for your help

Hi Lisa. The first thing to check is the duo valve. Search for it - there is lots of information on his site.

Thank you Australian for the advice. While I searched the forum and found some information I found a youtube video that had my EXACT problem. Once I knew what the "duo valve" looked like I opened the hood of my car and there it was as easy to get to as anything. It was sitting right on the side of the right side inner fender well. The video showed removing the five torx screws and carefully removing the solenoid covers. My valve was so dirty that the plunger/actuator was literally stuck to the cavity it moves in. This was the left valve and the one for the drivers side. The passanger side that had "some" control but was dirty and stuck too. I cleaned and polished all the components and reassembled the valve and now I have serious AIR CONDITIONING. It will get frigid in that car. Such and easy fix and my first repair on the car. Thank you YouTube for the help. But I hope this answer helps someone else on this forum. This certainly was a nice victory over this complicated car. Just have to overcome the autodimming rear view mirror and the car will be 100% perfect. From a google search I think I have to replace the mirror as they have a tendency for failure. But I love my SLK.
