I just bought a used 2012 SLK 350. Previous to buying it I gave the vin to this site and got the data card (thank you), so I know the number is good. But my insurance company types it in and says it comes back invalid. I emailed them a photo of the VIN on the dash and she says "are you sure it's a 2012?". She says she usually can type in the VIN and year and the make and model pops up. That's not happening. She says "something is not linking". I've used State Farm for years, many vehicles (including my previous R171) and never had this issue. Agent claims she can put it in manually but that underwriting will question it. Also says she needs to get the MSRP for the vehicle when new.

1) has anyone every heard of or had this issue?

2) anyone know where I can get the MSRP for this specific car?

Yes, that's my data card and after she said my vin was invalid I did give her that number in case that would help, but that's when she asked for the number on the dash, which matches the original VIN I gave her. Assuming she knows how to do her job, I'm suspecting the State Farm software somehow does not have a complete list of MB VINs, but that's me speculating. This is why I was wondering if anyone else had ever seen or heard of this.

just did a VIN decode with your number and it comes up every time. There are several decode site and all the ones I tried it works. Your insurance system has an issue. Have you tried the DMV.

Insurance agent still says she needs the original MSRP. I don't know where to find this. Does anyone?

With a starting price of $54,800, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK350 is among the most expensive vehicles in its class, but it is utterly stuffed with so much content we cannot describe it all here.
Engine: 4-Cyl, Turbo, 1.8 Liter
Top Speed: 155 mph

Prices are expected to start around $50,000. Eight airbags and Attention Assist (the system that tries to guess if you’re dreaming and driving) are standard. Luxurious options include the Magic Sky Control roof, an AMG appearance package, and Airscarf, which blows warm air onto your neck. Safety extras include active cruise control with collision warning. Fully loaded, the SLK350 will probably reach into the low-to-mid-$60,000 range. We expect the SLK250 to start at approximately $45,000 when it arrives next spring, with very little visual distinction from the 350. And, hey, if even one in 20 people thinks your SLK is actually an SLS, consider it a bargain.

I posted this for another member. It might help you (but enough to satisfy them? who knows)

This site won't give you your specific car BUT you can/should be able to figure it out quite easily knowing what toys your car has :tu:

I found this same info with a Google search and told her that $54,800 was the starting MSRP, but if she needs specific for this vehicle with these options, I'll continue to research.

Maybe ask MBUSA? They may not show a copy of the receipt, but maybe confirm cost to insurer.

Well it's all resolved now. The brilliant woman at my insurance company realized she wasn't typing the hyphen between Mercedes and Benz, so the vin was coming up as invalid.

All is well now. The lesson for today - Never under estimate the stupidity of people. Thanks to everyone who tried to help on this.

Yep. - That little thingy could be a hyphen, a dash, or even a minus sign. It's all very confusing - especially to woke millennials and stuff. >:D

As for the original MSRP, when I bought mine (used, CPO) the MB dealer very happily handed me a sheet that basically mimicked the window sticker...my 2012 SLK 350 went out @ just over $62,300...any MB dealer should be able to do the same for you
